n-Vi: RGB via DVI
Posted by: Margan on 07 September 2007
Does anybody know if the n-Vi is capable of sending RBG information on its DVI output instead of YUV?
There are some projectors that have a so called chromabug (occasional wrong colors) when used with HDMI/YUV, this bug does not appear with HDMI/RGB.
I have found nothing on this topic in the n-Vi manual.

It cannot output YUV. It is fixed to RGB in hardware.

Thanks, that good news!
Another question:
With YUV analog progressive (that I currently use) it is a little annoying that I have to switch the aspect ratio manually between 4:3 and 16:9 (especially when this changes on the DVD between menu and film).
Is the signal to switch the display automatically included in the n-Vi's DVI output?

As far as I am aware no player has 16:9/4:3 switching via analogue progressive.
The n-Vi/DVD5 certainly doesnt support this.
(I am sure someone will prove me wrong though...)

Oh yes, I'm quite sure no player can switch on analogue progressive.
What I wanted to know is: does the n-Vi deliver the 16:9/4:3 switch signal on the DVI output?

Sorry, didnt read your post properly...
Nope, you can only select manually from OSD. There also isn't a line on the DVI pins that you can wiggle, as its all encrypted TMDS data.

Thanks for your reply.
What's that for an incomplete standard DVI/HDMI when you have to switch the aspect ratio manually????
Why didn't they include this what is possible via SCART or (I think) even FBAS?

well, most film/music DVD's these days are 16:9/anamorphic etc
I do have some 4:3 discs though saying that...
