An upgrade path for Nait 5 owners

Posted by: Todd A on 20 December 2003

As I've detailed in my other thread, my 250 blew up last night. What to do? I need - Need - music. How about drop my Nait 5 into the main system? That's what I did, but I opted to use just the amp section, using my 202/FC2/NAPSC2 combo as the front end. The Nait sounded better than ever. The difference between the Nait 5 pre-amp section and the 202 was immediately and dramatically apparent: every area of performance was improved. So, for anyone interested in moving up the upgrade path, here's an option. You will need a power supply, though. (I've seen a number of questions relating to upgrading while using a Nait 5 over the years, so I figured I'd post my experience.) Too bad that the new Nait 5i won't be as flexible as the Nait 5.

Nait 1 was'nt "upgradeable" this does'nt seem to hold back it's desirability second hand or its legendary performance.
I heard the new kit with Tom and agree it sounds great and speaks "Naimish"

The Nait 5i sounds like an excellent move to me. It's cheaper than the '5'; more powerful and has a better quality volume pot. It also has RCA sockets to invite a wider customer base.

OK; you can't tweak it - you sell it and move on - I reckon it'll be pretty desireable for those starting out, or a second system.

Sounded good at the Heathrow Show with CD5i and the new Arrivas.
