Loss of Dwayne Cooney to Great British soccer team?

Posted by: PatG on 02 May 2006

I heard on the radio yesterday that one of the key players (Dwayne Cooney) in Great Britain's soccer team for the forthcoming World Series in Germany would miss out due to injury.

They said that his excessive desire to play in the tournament by declaring for Britain as opposed to representing his native (parents are Irish) Ireland (& who failed to qualify) had backfired?

Don`t start that or we`ll loose Gerrard, Owen etc....

So they'll put him in the studio to make insightful and intelligent diagnosis of the games then. That'll be entertaining.

They'll be able to have 'spot the grammatically correct sentence' competitions!

When did Great Britain have a football team outwith the Olympic Games ?

It's the English football team that are suffering at the moment. They seem to have already lost the trophy they haven't yet won.......

Great Britain losing Cooney or even if South America lost Ronald Eno won't make any difference to the end result: the Socceroos to win the World Series!

Soceroos!

Do you think they have a chance? Really? Wrong shape, or wrong size, ball!

Even without that denizen of articulation and oral English England should be good enough to beat most teams.

Whan it comes to the real big sides then you need that something extra! Most world cups are won by teams with three or four real world class players.

I don't think 'arry QL qualifies, do you?

Are you implying the Socceroos isn't a big team? We have 11 players including a goalkeeper.

I actually think the Socceroos could cause the odd upset. However, despite the 11 players including a goalkeeper, most of the real contenders have more choice, from say 20-24 players including 3 goalkeepers!

Will Eddie Jones move to manage the Socceroos next? Sir Clive's switch to the beautiful game has not had the same impact he had in Rugby.

Eddie Jones can't even coach the Wallabies to beat their own little sisters, so the Socceroos will just have to make do with Guus Hiddink - that is, until he deserts them for Russia after the World Cup. I think Football Australia are chasing Gerard Houllier to replace Hiddink.

The Russians are buying everything this side of the equator, or so it seems. Houlier would be interesting. Erikson is avaialable in July, you may have to sell Tasmania to pay for his salary.

Do you want Andy Robinson? Maybe he and Eddie can do a double act.

I like footie despite having seen-followed Chels for 42 years.

England have other good goal-scorers (apart from good Irish lad who cut Terry's leg), although I believe little Arse lad has been chosen prematurely ahead of others.

Oz jolly good - remember when they should have qualified/beat Eng team full of 6 Chels players?

Come on Midden tonight (Eurosport has good Under 17 couple of German back on Thursday 11th).

Arse ladies looked big/blonde last Bank Holiday winning Ladies FA Cup. It would be nice if WHam won chaps one on Saturday on bad refereeeing decision, but Liver are much better now (only 9 points behind Chels instead of 40 - would have won Barclayship if had not lost both League Games to disappointing Champions).

Nice to see good refereeing helps Newc & Blackb qualify for Gretna Green trophy ...

Goal difference also tells a story - Chelsea: 50 against Liverpool: 32.

Tuffo Midden - you should IMO have made it 1-1 with penalty after not good 1st half (I remember that poor Jimmy Floyd H. has never been in proper-trophy winning side - I also felt that Parlour should have been on very very early rather than not at all...).
