Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

After my latest used Naim purchase; a NAP250 (which I've discussed elswhere on this forum.) I decided to hook-up a secondary system consisting of my old SNAPS, NAP140, NAC32_5, ARCAM Alpha5+ CDP and a pair of NHT Super One speakers.
I then realized (maybe this was my mistake?) that I needed an additional 4-pin to 4 pin DIN inter-connect to go between the SNAPS and the Pre-amp. (My other 4<>4 is connected between the SNAPS and the NAP140.) I have now since purchased the additional inter-connect.
I've hooked everything up and I get absolutely nothing but a really really low hum from the system. No music, barely a hum. I've looked on the Naim site for owners manuals hoping to find wiring diagrams (they only have info. for newer set-ups.) and even did a search here on the forum without much success. Thus is why I've made this post.
Is the 4-pin to 4 pin DIN inter-connect that goes between the SNAPS and the Pre-amp the wrong cable? The only other thing that I don't know is whether the DIN to RCA inter-connect between the pre-amp and the CD player is the culprit?
Without tearing apart my "Main system" to temporarily steal other cables, how else do I trouble-shoot this mess?
Please help!
Thanx,

Bill--
Sounds like you are missing the shorting plug for the 32.5. If you are using a single rail SNAPS, you must insert a plug in the socket for a 5 pin SNAIC.

Thanx, Bob!
Yes, the SNAPS is a single rail unit. What does the shorting plug look like, where do I get one and what should it cost? Does this plug go into the back of the SNAPS or the Pre-amp?

Bill--
The shorting plug looks like a round piece of plastic with 5 little pins sticking out of it. It plugs into the 5 pin socket on the back of the 32.5--the one where a Hicap would be plugged in.
Call Accent on Music in Mt. Kisco or Innovative Audio--either one should have one. (I saw your comment on your nearest dealer.) If not, email NANA--I'd be pretty sure they would mail you one. Cost--I don't know but can't believe they would be very expensive.
Best Regards,

I'll look into this with Innovative Audio (they're closer than Mt. Kisco)
Sorry for the venom on the "Dealer" post, but it was a way to vent my anger and frustrations over that scenerio. That was months and months ago and I still can't believe what he told me!
If he thought that the time between visits last time was too long, now he can wait till "never" comes along!

Once again, thanx for the help!

Stop everything.
You are loosing a lot, your 32.5 is not performing at its best. Forget the shorting plug, ask for an exchange of your new SNAIC4 with a SNAIC5 and Dual-Rail your SNAPS. Innovative should be able to do it, it is quite simple and very cheap.

This is the best advice, but not all SNAPS can be dual railed. Only a SNAPS2 supports this. Some units will identify themselves as "SNAPS2" on the back panel, but even some that say just "SNAPS" are still SNAPS2. The only way to know for sure is to open it up, and see if there are two regulators inside.

Right Mike,
The other way to know is to look at the back. If there are 2 sockets with a +VE or +24v pin, you can dual rail it.

In the meantime the shorting plug is available from Naim for about £5

I never thought of that, but it makes perfect sense, when you realize that the SNAPS2 was designed to power two separate devices (pre-amp and active crossover, IIRC).
