Your all-time favorite tune or song?

Posted by: Nime on 14 December 2005

I'll admit to "Forever Autumn" on the old "War of the Worlds" album. Can't really explain it but I find it incredibly moving. I hadn't heard it for years and then it popped up on the radio last week. Instant spinal tingle. Sad? Dunno. What's yours?

Here comes the flood is a great song...

Red rain is up there too (while we're on a Peter Gabriel theme).

Maybe a good thread would be.....

Most memorable tune ... and why it was soooo memorable. This thread could possibly put us all to shame.

Love will tear us apart - Joy Division, sheer genius from a man standing on the edge.
How soon is now? - The Smiths, Johnny Marr's greatest moment surely.
Mirror in the bathroom - The Beat, just sublime
007, a fantasy theme - Barry Adamson, for the immortal line "Bond is Black!"

Tough, tough - some of the songs mentioned here score very high on my list (Echoes, Here Comes the Flood, etc.)

It's very hard to choose between "Diamonds & Rust" (Joan Baez) and "Too Rich for my Blood" (Patricia Barber), really can't decide.

American Music Club - Last Harbour
Firefly
Smiths - These Things Take Time

Maria McKee - Absolutely Barking Stars

Chaps

My overall favourite song is Move Over Darling by Doris Day. It was banned by the BBC for being to sexy.

The Timeless collection by Sarah Brightman. Her voice is without equal.

Anything by Vaughn Williams

Go for it. Whiter Shade Of Pale - Procol Harum gets my vote.

Yes, but only the King Curtis version - 'King Curtis live at Fillmore West' - this version is utterly sublime. It is also the opening theme to the film 'Withnail & I' and features on the music CD.
