N or G router

Does the type of router make a difference for hi-fi audio streaming using devices such as Transporter or NAS/Airport Express?
This question comes from one who can't even get a simple domestic wireless network to operate.

Will an Airport Express work to connect the HDX to my computer system? I'm not the most computer savvy person around, and want to keep things as simple as possible. I hear it would be best to physically wire via ethernet, but I'd like to go wireless.
