The 135's

Chaps

I just thought that I would let you know that I got the 135's yesterday and they were installed at 4.00pm.

I was up listening to them at 8.00 this morning and I have to say, even with only 16 hours warm up time under their belt, I am impressed.

I had a 250 powering a pair of Briks and I have relegated the 250 to the secondary system to replace the 140. This system had a pair of Linn Saras (soon to be replaced by SBL's)and even this system sounds better.

Back to the main system, the 135's give the Briks more clarity and detail and the bottom end is superb. If anyone has a pair of Briks on a 250 my advice is to go to 135's as soon as possible, the difference is enormous.

Mrs Mick is working today, so I intend to spend the rest of the morning listening to the sound track from Pearl Harbour which sounds superb. The 135's really bring out the music.

All I need do now is talk Mrs Mick around the 552, so I am booking a table for two in a rather good restaurant.

Regards

Stew,

I suggest that you research the CDP question via the 'search' facility - maybe under 'source first CDX'.

Alternatively, to give everybody a chance to say the same things they've already said umpteen times, start a new thread.

The advantage of the 1st approach is that the research is likely to help you define your question uniquely, so that we won't have to go over the same old ground in the same old way.

If/when you start the new thread, be sure to ID your budget and your beliefs about used equipment.

Regards.

Nick,

I reckon that's about the limit with passive 135s on Isobariks (at least with the 4 ohm crossover).

Active is an entirely different matter, though.

Without doubt you should go for a CDX which is an excellent player. I would take a second hand CDX in preference to a new CD5.

Adding a XPS to the CDX was one of my best ever upgrades. There is an old saying which is 100% true and that is that adding a XPS totally transforms a CDX.

Hold out for a CDX, you have a good amplification which cries out for it.

Hmm, about 4 years old, I reckon.

Still, at least you didn't say "age-old"! ;-)

cheers, Martin
