Directionality

Having just become the proud owner of my new CD5 I can finally say that CD sounds as good as my turntable - about bloody time too!

The most obvious change I have noticed is that it is now very easy to tell which speaker the sound is coming from if it is predominantly coming from that channel (or solely in some recordings). This 'stereo directionality' (i don't know proper words), is not exactly bad but i am finding it odd/different to listen to.

I do not know whether it is my speaker positioning or room or even if it should be like that. One thought had occurred to me - I have my TV in between my speakers which are about 6ft apart and I listen 10ft away - could it be the TV?

do you get a central image, aswell as the left and right channels? I'm not familiar with your AE's (?) but it may be worth toeing them in a few degrees.
Congrats on your new player.

Harris -

Don't know what kindof music you're enjoying these days, but CDs - and CD of classic Jazz in particular - can be mixed with a 'hard pan' to the left and right. The drum kit will only be heard from the left speaker and the sax only from the right, for instance. An LP of the same performance may not exhibit this extreme left/right separation.

I've also not found Naim CD players to have greater separation than others. Could be the tunes. Just a thought.
