DVD5 no sound on DVI out to HDMI

Posted by: David Leedham on 15 December 2008

Using a DVI to HDMI conveter to Panasonic Plasma 37PX70B.

good quality picture, ie improvement on SCART result. With scart there are both sound and video signal success. I cannot work out why no sound via HDMI, any clues?

sorry to sound like a smart arse (i know, nobody likes smart a smart arse)

but...

DVI or digital video interface.

mentions nothing about sound. sound has to be sent separately.

Scart was designed to carry all of the different video methods as well as audio to try and reduce the complexity of AV interconnects around europe, as far as i know.

i know sombody will now correct me and make me look like an ass.

Thanks Stuart

I have a sneaking suspicion you are right!
However not clear to the uninnitiated when reading the DVD5 manual. Despite several reads. One of the hazards of buying second hand is no dealer support!

anybody able to confirm this?

i run a audio out cable from the TV to my 252 .

1 more cable req from DVD5 to TV?

DVI is for video signal only - a connection common place in top end computer monitors. Although you can get DVI-HDMI cables and convertors (Chord for one), the audio side of the HDMI cable will be redundant...

You will have to run analogue cables to your 252, or, digital to a processor, then analogue to the 252...I would do this direct from the DVD5, not via the TV.

Hope this helps, Steve
