Ubiquitous Black Televisions

Posted by: Jason Damon on 14 December 2009

Why are the vast majority of new televisions black, and on the whole made from cheap plastics. I can't wait for this fashion to change.
I can understand that costs need to be kept down for companies to remain competitive but how difficult would it be to design televisions that have some form of aesthetic identity. Visit any television retailer and you will be met by a wall of black shiny plastic. I can't be the only one who would appreciate more diversity in design and finishes than is currently available, this goes for surround systems too. I cannot afford a B&O or Loewe TV but I would pay slightly more for a television that looks more appealing.
Does anyone else share my thoughts on this ?

I've Googled but can't find who makes or sells Ubiquitous TVs. Roll Eyes

I bought 50" Kuro last April. Its brilliant.

I recently bought a 26" Sony LCD. By comparison its ok. Mrs D enjoys it whilst she is sewing/whatever. I looked at a range of 26" to 37" Panasonic/Sony sets and didn't think any of them compared well against the Kuro. I also glanced a few 50" sets in passing and felt much the same.

When I asked Grahams about 37" Kuros, they said they were brilliant (but no longer available) and nothing since comes even close.

Cheers

Thanks for the feedback Don. Yours along with comments from some other people I've spoken with convinced me to strike while I could - delivered last evening. Feels a bit like the Aro Keel - get it whilst you can - production terminated...

And you are right - the picture quality is amazing and with the undermount speaker the sound quality is surprisingly good too!
