:-)
does anybody knows why all the REAL musicians doesn't offer their music in hi-res files (or better their labels)?or why - for example- doesn't offer itunes their music in hi-res format (guess a lot of us folks would like to pay a little more for good quality)?

Labels and bands have tried (DVD-A, SACD, etc) We as consumers in general dont want it. We are plenty happy with MP3s bought online. Why would they give us 24/96 en masse when they do not need to.

Some musicians offer 24/96 FLAC downloads from their websites, and this will be increasingly more common. Also many small start-up bands are now releasing their first albums, and hopefully many more, through torrent sites and their own websites.

Nine Inch Nails (Trent Reznor) has been doing this for a while. From his site about their newest album.

"the music is available in a variety of formats including high-quality MP3, FLAC or M4A lossless at CD quality and even higher-than-CD quality 24/96 WAVE. your link will include all options - all free. all downloads include a PDF with artwork and credits."

Giving it away for free eliminates pirating. The artists know they cant do anything about it anyway. So they make money on the LP releases and the physical CD/Packaging the big fans want. Then touring, t-shirts, etc... With nearly 100% of profits going directly to the artist, they can sacrifice the multi-platinum level of album sales. Its not where the huge artists make their money anyway. Smaller acts are happy just to get some exposure.

If you go look at your favorite artists website, you might find some of them doing the same.

Just wait and more and more will be doing the same thing. Record labels are quickly becoming simply marketing companies.

from the FLAC website.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of these are offering 24/96, and are possibly free.

The widely accepted reason most music is not commercially available as a high res' file is due to pirates. Winker

Not we, they perhaps?
