Pixies photography/covers exhibition

Posted by: SC on 23 March 2010

For those interested in the Pixies, photography, album covers, graphic design or all of the above (!) a good friend of mine, Simon Larbalestier, is having a major retrospective exhibition of his work and album covers for the Pixies from the '80's through to the Minotaur box-set of last year....

There will be some rare images on show, including the never exhibited before original Polaroids from the Come on Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa covers...

Should be a good show for anyone interested....The exhibition runs from 17th April and is in W1 London. More info can be found at Snap Galleries.

Loved his and Vaughan Oliver's stuff (v23)–they single-handedly pushed me into typography and design against my will!

Yeah....perhaps a little less of the Vaughan and a bit more of the Simon when it comes to the Pixies stuff - but that's a whole other and long story...! Winker

Where in London W1? I can't see it's anywhere else than Birmingham.

Yeah, it's not clear on the website is it !

Anyway, it's the opening exhibition at Snap's brand new London gallery. From the press release:

Snap Galleries, specialists in rare and exclusive music photography, are proud to host a retrospective exhibition for acclaimed photographer Simon Larbalestier in April 2010. This will be the first exhibition in their new Piccadilly premises in central London.

...

The exhibition runs from 17 April 2010 until 29 May 2010 at Snap Galleries, Piccadilly Arcade, London W1

No probs... Smile

I'll be going to the PV on the 15th, so will report back with what I think of the show...but suffice to say, I'm sure it will be worth a wander if you are in the area..!

Bit more of a bonus:

Here's a Video (approx 30mins) from the Minotaur release/secret gig night....Has the Pixies talking and playing, as well as Vaughan and Simon etc...

Enjoy.

Stu - Absolutely, love to.

If you are free on the eve of the 15th, I might be able to wangle another invite if you fancied it....

Thanks for the info, really hope I have time to pop in when I am down in London, I love both Simon Larbalestier and Vaughan Oliver's work.

In fact were it not for their work during the 80's I would probably never have fallen in love with typography and design to the extent that lead to me going back to college to study again.
