Hi Folks,
I've been looking for S/H CDX for sometimes now. Already tried usual places like Loot,Ebay and Hifi for sale but there's seems to be shortage of S/H CDX or am I looking in wrong places?
Any idea where else I should try?
Thanks & Very Happy New Year.

N,
it's my impression that dealers offer p/ex more as a way to make a sale on the new gear rather than because it offers them any real profit. Certainly the margins are lower, they lose the VAT on the sale to HMCE, and there is always the possibility of a failure during the warranty period which could wipe out the profit on the next 10 p/ex deals.
Maybe you could come to some mutually advantageous arrangement?
cheers, Martin

I understand what you say about part exchange rates from dealers but I am getting special rates due to the amount of equipment I am buying!!
However I am always open to offers!!

The dealers are correct in stating that they have to pay Vat on the sale of second hand equipment but they also have to pay VAT on new equipment.
However the difference is that when they buy goods for re-sale from a manufacturer i.e. Naim they can re-claim the vat they pay for the purchase of the equipment. However when they buy goods of non registered individuals they cannot re-claim the Vat of the purchase price and hence they have to reduce their part ex values!!
I hope that makes sence!!
Just another point, the dealers pay Vat on the whole sale proceeds not just the profit, for every £1000 you pay, £148.93 goes to the government by way of Vat!!
Happy new year

That has to be one of the most blatent attempts at trying to obtain business I have seen on here!!
Nice one
I think you summed it up by saying:-
Any dealer with a decent accountant!!

Alex,
different dealers have told me both versions of this - VAT on the whole price, or on the margin. Guess it depends on the accountant involved.
Thanks for explaining.

There is a S/H CDX for sale at Audiogon.com but the seller lives in the US and the shipping cost to the UK might be prohibitive...
Thought I should let you know anyway.

I am pretty sure that many dealers are not aware of this scheme, and are losing out as a result.

I have used this scheme for many business's I didn't realise it applied to Hi-fi shops as well but of course with hindsight thats obvious now!!
I have been trying to persuase my local hi-fi dealer to use my services for many years but have not had any sucess yet. Sadly he is not a Naim dealer so I can't twist his arm and borrow Naim gear for the weekend.
