This is very sad to hear.

I was fortunate to meet Jon’s father on several occasions when visiting Jon during the last few years. He was often busy making violins in his workshop and always had a story or two to tell and a joke to crack. A very sad loss indeed.

My sincere condolences to Jon and family.

I don't know Jon, but it's always grievous to hear of someone losing a parent. Tends to put life in perspective too.

My thoughts are with you, Jon.

Thanks all, this is all most appreciated and unexpected.

Looking after first mum as she had her fatal 3rd primary cancer some 5 years ago, followed by dad's slow decline into the nightmare that is dementia since then, is not a task I can recommend to anyone. Undoubtably the hardest thing I have ever had to do.

But you do these things because you are determined that they should have the best possible time while they can. I managed, with help, to cope with dad until a month ago, at which point even with 24/7 care, it was impossible to continue. He then went into a specialist home where he died peacefully in his sleep last night.

Thanks again,
jon

The death of a parent is never easy - both of mine - but sometimes can be a blessed release, for everyone.
