Martin Scorsese Presents the Blues - Feel Like Going Home

Posted by: J.N. on 21 September 2005

BBC2 Friday 30th September at 11.35pm.

This is a superb documentary, tracing the birth and evolution of the blues.

First of a series of three films, and if you love the blues - unmissable.

John
I have the CD boxset which was derived from the program. It is an excellent blues collection.

I have the single disc derived from the program. Also excellent, and while certainly not as complete, great for a single sit down listening. Also nice on the iPod set to shuffle play of the playlist "Blues" which includes other favorite Blues CDs, for listening at the gym.

there is a bob dylan programme (on Mon/Tue) next week on BBC2, also apparently directed by Martin Scorsese. Is this a coincidence? or are BBC2 having some kind of MS/blues/Dylan freak week?

While I'm on the subject, is it just me, or do lots of people seem to be getting excited about Dylan at the moment? Is is his birthday (65?) or something? Or has he just changed his agent?

He's just changed his agent, who probably fell off the floor and said I've never engaged in this sort of thing before.

The Bob Dylan documentary by Scorcese also is debuting in the US on Public TV Monday and Tuesday.

I've just watched it again, and yet again, one hour and 20 minutes simply flew past.

What a legacy these magnificent old men of the blues have left us. The film is also a fascinating historical document.

A rare piece of quality TV. Wonderful stuff.

It was broadcasted on Swedish television last year(or this spring?). Great stuff indeed.

Watched it last night.

Van Morrison was shouting rather than singing and Tom Jones as good a ballad singer as he is just doesn't do blues. Bloody hell, right at the start Lulu appeared, thank goodness she didn't shout. The Americans are truly the masters at playing/singing the blues.
