The Awesome Power of my New Speakers!
Posted by: Alex S. on 22 December 2001
Those who venture into Manaland will know that my pods have landed. They look funky but that's as nothing compared to how they sound.
First on the platter was the soundtrack from 'Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves'. I heard Bryan Adams' husky romanticism as never before. It was the same with that all-time great 'Lady in Red', subtleties there I hadn’t even noticed until now. At that point I had to have a heavy session with Celine Dion and a lie down.
It was the same with Classical: 'Russian Fireworks, Tchaikovsky Goes Really Loud', had real verve and excitement. ‘Rachmaninov Does Rap’ and ‘Hard House Glazunov’ were equally impressive.
Was there any weakness to the pods? Well. 'Mantovani’s Continental Encores' went on a bit and 'Golden Hour Presents a Stereo Dance Party' did not image as well as I remember. Nonetheless, when I span ‘Impact, The Breakthrough to the Exciting World of Stereo Sound’ the Soundstage depth was awesome, and when I played 'Gulls on the Coast' from one of my all time favourites: 'A Year's Journey of Birdsong' I ducked! 'Common Thrush' sounded a bit unpleasant though.
The pods did Sarah Brightman proud but it wasn't until I played one of my favourite tracks from Phil Collin's excellent album 'Face Value' and it sounded absolutely stunning that I realised the true power of my pods.

Oh, Alex, thank you.
Haven't laughed so much (at something from the 'Net) in ages.
cheers, Martin

Alex I hope you were joking about the Bryan Adams/sarah Brightman thing.
Glad they sound good, do you have a digi camera, I really want to see these things in a living situe.

Just been following the subtle counter-melody of the Birdie Song. Magic!

I hope you don't have kids flying round the room at the hi fi show they had deadly looking spiky things coming out the back of the tweeters.
Posted on: 23 December 2001 by Alex S.
Don't worry gary - I've got plenty of spares (and the speakers are 5 miles away from the kids)
Mr Tibbs, I'll let you know if they can manage a full week, I've put a bottle of Guinness next to them for encouragement.
Well done Arsenal!

It seems that I am just tempting you but that was not the intention.
I need help.
I'm using a camcorder and iMovie - was hoping to convert stills into downloadable forum pics. Having trouble!

The quickest thing to do providing you camera has firewire is to strem the movie in. Now drag through the frames to the one you want, then goto file and save frame, where it says mac pict, select Jpeg.
Open in appleworks and save again as jpeg (there you will find options for file quality) if the file size is to big for this board
Posted on: 31 December 2001 by Alex S.
I did as you said.
I got a Jpeg still from iMovie and converted it to an Appleworks Jpeg (less than 32K as prescribed).
Went to add attachment in Forum message update - hit the button, and. . . Error message - try again; which I will now do tomorrow.

Those silver pod speakers are actually sold here in San Francisco by the same dealer that sells Naim!! The pods are the sole product pictured in their ad in the phone book, as well, so the owner must be very proud of them. I've never heard them, but don't want to; surely they're a joke?

Alex,
sentence should read "less than 30K as prescribed".
Maybe this is your problem?
cheers, Martin

We will be exhibiting (sort of, thanks, Naim!) at CES with o'Heocha (sp?) in their room, CDS2/52/500 in one room, Series 5 in the second. (Two years in a row for us, amazing, that...)

Using esoteric shaped speakers can damage your health!
Does it give a whole new meaning to PRaT?
FEAR THE POD USERS!
Posted on: 01 January 2002 by Alex S.
Does that mean you like the speakers or just fancy the legendary sales team?
Anyone still interested,
So at last I give you a system pic. I know its crap but from small acorns do oak cones grow. And if you knew what trouble I've gone to just to get this far.
BTW How come everyone else's pictures are visible without having to click on them?
And, of course, it was AOL's software which caused all the problems - All this magic was done with MS EX.

Alex,
That's a system that would bring a smile to anyone's face!
There is a good resemblance to the Smash Martians too.
I'm not back at work 'til the 7th, I'll give you a call soon and pop round, I assume their sound is a lot less comical than their looks
Happy New Year,
Andy.

Cool picci Alex, the next trick is to work out if your camerea can take still images, (In general higher quality, and bigger pictures.)
There should be a law passed, that law should state that Never Shall Anyone Join Crappy AOL, when there exists freeserve. 12.99 a month, no need to use crap propriety software, no restriction on FTP up loading or Email size and friendly knowledgable dedicated Mac help line.
And no yearly tie in,you pay monthly for as long as you want the service.
Your room looks seriosly cool, I hope just out of view is a big old sofa.
Posted on: 01 January 2002 by Alex S.
Thanks Mr T., gary, I'm off to join Freeserve!
Anyone who can tell me what the Hell they're looking at (all of it that is) gets a free digital camera!
Alex
PS Mr Tibbs, I do wish you wouldn't use hi-tech language like 'right-click', I'm on a Mac!

Never met the "legendary" sales team...

P.S. Alex, just get yourself a two-button mouse (I just bought a Wacom Intuos2 pad with wireless two-button mouse + scroll wheel)--you'll never go back.

It's good to see that at least one forum member fully understands the concept of irony.

I've been using a simpler two button Wacom Artpad at work and home for years. They take a little getting used to but a mouse is cumbersome afterwards. And Photoshop / Coreldraw / PCB layour stuff is a doddle with a pen.
Oh, and you never run out of mouse mat either
Wacom are the best, buy one and be happy.
