Spell checker suddenly appeared when posting here
Posted by: acad tsunami on 12 January 2007
A couple of people have told me they don't see an automatic spell checker when typing a post here but I do. Is this Adam trying to tell me something?
Of course it may be something to do with having updated my Mozila Firefox yesterday. Anyone else experiencing this new facility?

Looks like an automatic spell checker with Firefox/2.0.0.1 , must have arrived a couple of days along with the latest security patch.

Sounds a bit like something from Harry Potter.

if you use a Mac and Safari you can simply select check spelling as you type from the Edit menu.

Howard,
When you type in the box to compose a post and type incorrectly, the offending word is automatically underlined in red. This happened to me after upgrading my Firefox - I don't think it is a coincidence but I'm ready to be corrected.

I'm not sure I like the "feature" were if I click on link in a post it now opens a new tab.I am used to looking at the selected thread link and then hittin red cross to fall back to the original post. Of course doing that now asks if I want to close all open tabs and close down FF.
If it's a selectable feature what is it called?

Mine does exactly the same. I can't ever remember altering my Firefox settings to have this included, but then again i can't remember entering a Swedish Girl Singer quiz either.

Spell Checker is part of Firefox 2 and subsequent releases.
Mr Mozilla say:
"Spell Checking
Sometimes you’re in a rush, and can’t remember if it’s “i” before “e” or the other way around. Firefox 2 has built-in spell checking to keep you from making any mistakes in your blog posts and Web-based email, so you can worry about more important things."
If you like worrying about less important things go to Tools > Options > Main Tab > remove tick from "check my spelling as I type"
speling - interesting, I have Firefox 2.0.0.1 and you will note it has not checked/corrected my speling. So there is more to this than meets the eye.
And I was just getting round to wondering if Mozilla and Godzilla are related?
