My Morning Jacket are great!

I picked up the album 'It still moves' on vinyl this weekend and this is really getting a lot of air time.

It sounds like 'after the goldrush' period Young mixed up with a bit of Mercury Rev/flaming lips. Although it is more mainstream and less avant garde than either Rev/Lips the music is still fantastically chilled out, intelligent and has great guitar parts and melodies that hook you in without a fight.

I suppose you could try to shoe horn them into 'indie rock' or 'alt country' genres but in truth they are a lot more than that and really have a sound of their own despite the influences.

Recording and production is interesting as the album was recorded in a barn in Kentucky and has a real nice live vibe about it. Heavy reverb is used to add to this feel. On vinyl this is captured very well and I am glad I choose this format for this particular purchase.

I can imagine this album being listened to a lot. If you fancy picking up some new music over xmas then this has my utmost recommendation.

I highly recommend their previous album called "At Dawn". I think that it's equally as good if not better. They do the Neil Young on acid thing very well.

And their previous, previous album The Tennessee Fire.

(Although according to a flame haired DBL owning friend of mine it only counts if you have the albums on the original Darla Records releases not the hasty Thrill Jockey reissues of earlier this year).

PS I can exclusively reveal that they are the new favourite band of Sun columist and Capital Radio DJ Dominic Mohan -- a situation I am indirectly responsible for. Me and a fat BMG entertainment budget that is.
