anyone else to lazy for 45rpm
Posted by: vern on 18 November 2007
I bought a few of the 45rpm jazz reissues and while the sound is excellent I just can't enjoy them due to the labor involved. Just way to much up and down for me. Kills the whole vibe. Guess I'm to lazy to be a real audiophile. And if you might be trying to enjoy a drink with the album, forget it. Maybe rega will make a record changer.

I hardly ever play my singles except for a couple. It is a little the same with albums on double vinyl but i have got into the habit of leaping up when the side finishes and switching it immediately. If you get up and start blethering with anyone that is there you end taking 1.5 hours to play an album. I also need to get a lamp for beside the turntable so that i don't have to keep putting on 'the big light' to see what i am doing. If anyone can point me in the direction of a cartridge warming lamp (is that the right name?) please do.

If you have a PSU like the Heed Audio Orbit II then you push the button on the front to change the speed on the Rega.
If you have a newer Rega TT with the Rega PSU then push the power button on the back panel to turn the PSU on - when the power supply is switched on, the front power L.E.D. switch will light up red. This also indicates that 33 rpm is selected. To deactivate 33 rpm press the button inward's, this will turn the L.E.D. to green and will have selected 45 rpm.
Enjoy your 45s.

It's one reason why I keep my Lingo over an Armageddon (though perhaps one day...). I have the Conn401E cable (for using the Lingo with Naim equipment - earthing issues) and I find absolutely no problem the Lingo polluting the sound.
It's not the 45rpm singles I'm so bothered about (really isn't worth sitting down), but the 45rpm LPs mentioned by Vern that I wish to keep the facility.

Today I tend to record my vinyl records to digital before listening (yes, I know, heresy). Solves the problem!

Now c'mon,
I've got one album that's on 6 slabs of 45 vinyl and one on four and about a dozen or so 33rpm triple albums so count yourself lucky you don't listen to electronica and dance music
, though I am usually jumping around the room so its easy to change sides when you already up
.

In my view Johan has this one taped! I did the same with my vinyl! And if I don't tell anyone, no one notices my own transfers except for one recently which was commented on as being exceptionally fine compared to the other commercial CD issues I had put on! Apparently the very smal amount of residual surface noise had escaped attention!
