Suine flu
Posted by: Massimo Bertola on 19 July 2009
I know it's not the proper place to discuss this, but since I'm coming to the UK on August 22nd with my wife, any suggestions about the risk of suine flu?
Should I buy antivirals at home, look for them when in the UK or not worry at all?
Thanks,
Massimo

Not a med Dr M, so no expert...but at the moment here it seems like either a)the govt are trying to play it down and avoid panic or b)the tabloids are trying to create panic.
My wife is carrying offspring at present so we've done a lot of reading.
It don't sound good (apart from the two weeks off work obviously).

If you get ill (either at home or in England) you should seek medical advice then about anti-virals. As an EU visitor you will have free access to health care in the UK, and you will receive the medication if it is indicated.

Thanks very much.
I know there's a dedicated phone number I'll have to use in case.
But, let's hope for the best.

Massimo

A couple of interesting links from the WHO:
http://www.who.int/csr/don/2009_07_06/en/index.html
In the UK there has been over 7000 confirmed cases with 3 confirmed deaths.
http://www.who.int/csr/don/2009_07_01/en/index.html
There has been 81 cases of avian flu in Egypt with 27 fatalities.
I've not seen anywhere a warning not to travel to Egypt. Mind you their press coverage probably doesn't include Sky News / BBC / The Sun etc etc.

Just had a look through recent posts to see why you've decided to leave. Dunno if its just me, but is there some common thread with "555" trying to annoy you; with "555" trying to annoy Mick, and with "555" trying to annoy me? ( inter alia... )
I do think there *might* be...

The co-incidence *might* be you three have difficulty coping with the emotions that result from encountering a POV which differs from your own.

It might be.

No chance you three are mates, & failing in you attempts to annoy me Mike?
