LP12 Ultimate Spec Final Decision & LP12 Update News

System: 52/Supercap/250/CDX/EPOS22/NAT02

Just thought I would update you all, further to my request for advice on this subject(see previous post) what I have finally decided upon following your much appreciated comments and my research.

I ordered yesterday the following:

LP12 in Maple with Trampolin (I have solid wood floor which is itself laid on concrete so well suited for benefits of Trampolin)with black Lingo 2 power supply.

Linn Ekos Improved(This is being launched 01/12/2002 and includes the improvement of silver wiring to the arm).

Linn Akiva top of the range Moving Coil which W.E.F. 01/12/2002 replaces the Arkiv B

I am still deciding on the Phono Stage but Linn have offered me a LINTO to trial. I would also like to trial a Tom Evans Phono before making final decision but doing a side by side may prove impossible.

Although members seem 50:50 divided over Aro/Ekos I decided to rule Aro out due to the following:
No 45RPM; No cueing; no overhang adjustment and fiddly set-up plus Linn revised Ekos 01/12/2002 apparently brings huge improvements to the Ekos according to my mole at Linn.

Linn themselves decribe improvements to Akiva over Arkiv B as "same as the difference between night & day"! £500 allowance incidentally given against new Akiva for old Arkiv. Akiva is made by Scantech of Lyra Helikon fame.

I am expecting delivery before Christmas and will keep you informed once it has bedded in with the Naim. I can't wait!

Anyone compared LINTO with Tom Evans or am I talking Chalk and Cheese.

P.S. Nice to know that Linn are still developing their vinyl products.

Then name Scantech (never heard of it before) made me a little worried. Could it be something made in Denmark, by some guys previously at Ortofon?
Some detective works via Google revealed that they are a Japanese company (handmade, Zen and such stuff)!

Thanks for the update, Peter, and congratulations on your purchase. It should sound fabulous.

Presumably you didn't get to hear the new Ekos and Arkiva or have dealers got advance demo versions? Also, could you tell us how much they will cost?

I had heard rumours that Linn are about to bring out a bearing upgrade, did your source mention this?

Cheers

Why would a trampolin help? Are you putting the LP12 on the floor? I do not believe I am alone in thinking that the trampolin does for the LP12 what a flat tyre does to a car.

Welcome to the Naim collective. Vinyl Asylum must be down today is it?

Question, when aligning one of your cartridges, do you suggest that customers align the cantilever itself or the cartridge body proper wrt the protractors sight lines?

Thanks,

Craig

Anyone seen/heard the new Linn MC? Still no news on Linn site.

Can anyone else confirm the trade in value against the new Linn MC as I was told another amount (much less) as a trade?

Paul

have heard figures of around £500 if going for top end, £300 if going for Boron replacement.

Wow.

That sounds like a way cool purchase - speccing out a new LP12. Sure is a load of booty on kit you've not yet heard. I expect this new cart should be a real cracker!

In terms of having made a fully Linned-out purchase decision, wouldn't the obvious phono stage be the Linto?

Alternately the Prefix should offer great synergy with your existing amplification.

As to the new improved Ekos* - I wonder what they've done to make such stellar improvements. If my newly installed Ekos I is anything to go by, they certainly had a long way to go to better the Aro.

Just my 2p worth.

* - its better than the Ittok was in lots of unexpected areas, plays music better, boogies along. Just allows one to hear its shortcomings easily if one is accustomed to the musicality of the Aro. eek

Hi Peter,

Far be it 4 me 2 rain on your parade, I'm an Lp12 Ekos owner, but spending all this money on an unheard product, chosen through comparison of hearsay, and reliant on LinnSpin is sheer folly.

You're surely a Linn fanatic so I'm shure it will bring u immense enjoyment.

I prefer to have a few more bits and pieces to fiddle about with & tweak. Top of my list at the mo would be the Avid players, they had the best sounding room/set-up at the September HiFi Show.
