Did you get the limited edition cardboard sleeve one? Tim says it's rather lovely.

They seem to have been listening to a lot of Tool . . .

And Bary Gibb's doing the backing vocals . . .

Not sure I'm entirely thrilled - one of each of the above is definately enough.

Alex

PS - Hi Stephen, yes, the cardboard, it does seem limited.

...then Nick?

Stevens spent the year producing Swedish death metal bands - I'm surprised how light the new stuff sounds!

Listened to Stars Die & The Syk moves yesterday - brilliant stuff.

Thanks Stephen

Just saw it for £9.99, bargain....And on the play list there is a tracker called "The Creator Has A Mastertape"...

I wonder if this has any resemblance to a King Crimson song off one of the KC collectors club items from Summit Studios with a track called "The Creator Has A Masterplan".. But then again it could be stolen by KC themselves..anyone know...

I am sure Stephen B could ask SW for me :-)

Cheers

SW is in the US at the moment, but Tim Bowness replies..

'It's stolen from Pharoah Sanders 1969/70 track 'The Creator Has A Master Plan (from the album Karma). The Crimson piece was a cover of this. Steven deliberately alluded to the Sanders title (he likes it as do I).

The original piece is very much in the post-Love Supreme John Coltrane groove, chant, noise territory.'

I belive that the follow up to 'Returning Jesus' is at the final mixing stage. I know it features Robert Fripps guitar and Roger Eno amongst others. There'll be more at http://www.collective.co.uk/noman/

Hey, that reminds me.. I was listening to Black Sabbath the other day and one of the Ozzy lyrics was " would you like to see the Pope on the end of a rope"

In Absentia just arrived from Play247.com - it was sent from Belgium!

Mrs Seagull has already intercepted it and put it away for Xmas frown She says I've already had enough this year (CD5 etc) although that was this year's holiday fund (see other posts elsewhere). I might be able to negotiate an early release for this (my birthday is next week! wink)

Still waiting for Coma Divine extended edition frown

My copy arived via play yesterday. I have to say that I think it's their best album. The song-y bits are more focused, with that kind of anthemic chorus style I can't resist. It's a lot less heavy than I'd feared, and there are some beautiful textures. It's obvious that the production is sweeter and smoother though - weather this is a step forward I'm not sure, but it does sound very good on my system.

All in all I'm pleased.

And I like the cover.

James,

While Yes could have had some Tap-like moments on the Topographic tour(perspex pods and the like) PT are less prog-like in live context than either Air or Mercury Red - so no idea why you feel that way. I remember reading a review Neil Tennant did in the '70s criticising an overblown Yes show - have you ever seen the Pet Shop Boys live?

Sadly, no. I was hoping to wind up both Alex and Nick with my last two posts, but have been loftily ignored by both gentlemen.

So sorry not to respond, I've been busy with my students.

Alex

PS As a self-confessed admirer of Supertramp I find it difficult to be Lofty, although we both like Arsenal (apart from 'Stain' in goal - and 'in goal' is now sadly coming to mean 'in the vicinity of the goal'.

'Collapse the Light Into Earth' is absolutely beautiful. Even the heavier bits are interspersed with lovely choruses and harmonies. And he even managed to get the theme from 'Rio' into 'Blackest Eyes' - always a good move.

The album sounds very good too.

In Absentia was finally passed on to me this week - it had been hidden away till my birthday frown

Yes its good and well worth the wait (the heavy bits are few and far between and the majority of it are excellent tunes.)

Mrs Seagull gave it her official seal of disapproval - so it must be good, either that or I was playing it too loud wink
