Favorite Cure Al***
Posted by: GaryP on 28 April 2010
Following on from "The Smiths" thread what are folks' thoughts on their favorite Cure album.
Mine is and has always been Faith.
I will be the first to admit that it is probably one of the most miserably depressing albums of all time - but during my first term at University I pretty much played it 24 hours a day.

Let me be the first 'mainstreamer' to go with Disintegration

I know it's a collection of singles and not a true album but I simply adore...

Unquestionably their darkest one:

Seventeen Seconds

No contest, their first was their finest. Saw them numerous times in their early days, from the time of securing a copy of Killing an Arab on the Small Wonder label.
The 17 Seconds tour was good, but I found myself drifting by the time of the Faith tour. This is not to say some of their later stuff has not made it into my collection, but they never surpassed the raw energy and originality of their first album IMHO

Yeah, but which Cure album?

Allen, "snap"!
That's the one that also gets the most play on my turntable.
However, I agree with Nic that Three Imaginary Boys is probably their best studio album.
I've also been enjoying Joining the Dots, the B sides. I loved the extended play version of Standing on a Beach, with one side being the standard album and then side 2 having the best of the B sides. But this was only available on Cassette; my first was totally destroyed during a high speed roll-over in the car, and its replacement was "borrowed" by somebody. I still have the empty box and J-card though...

Faith is my favourite too. I remember seeing them in concert where the film 'Carnage Visors' was shown. I saw the film, bought the t-shirt, and hardly took it off for two years. I used to DJ at the Mermaid Inn in Brynsiencyn while at Bangor University, and invited Robert to play there. He replied to me in his scrawly script, turning down Brynsiencyn, but inviting me to see the band in Brighton. Sadly, I never made it.

Aah, "Carnage Visors", I remember that - still have no idea what it was all about! That Cure concert in Sheffield must have been one of my very first experiences of live music - great times!
It's ages since I've heard either, but I would pick 3IB or 17S as my favourite.

Strangely, this is my favourite:
Maybe I just cannot handle Pornography as it will lead to moral Disintegration.

Again, based on the number of plays it must be this.............
But "Mixed Up" gets quite a few spins as well.
