Led Zeppelin Vinyl Box Set Vol 1

Posted by: Stuart Frazer on 28 May 2003

Having seen this lately, I was just wondering if anybody had purchased this or have any comment on it (especially in terms of quality):

I]The Classic LED ZEPPELIN QUIEX SV-P Box - This boxed set includes the first four Led Zeppelin titles: SD 8216 Zeppelin One, SD 8236 Zeppelin Two , SD 7201 Zeppelin Three , SD 7208 Zeppelin Four repressed on our proprietary 200g QUIEX SV-P, SUPER VINYL PROFILE for the first time! [/I]

RTH-3000 200g Vinyl £155

Are these reissues any good or would it be better to seek out the original pressing's?

They are the first four LZ albums, remastered for analogue and pressed on 200g vinyl by Classic Records in the USA. I have them all and thwey are vastly superior to latterday pressings (the only ones I've heard that are better are the original Japanese pressings of LZ1 and Physical Grafitti; LZ2 is a bit trebly too, but all the othersare great). Jimmy Page personally approved the transfers.

They maintain all the original packaging too, but they use more robusat card. All in all, well worth getting, both in an audiophile sense - and as future collectors' items.

PS Claasic have thus far individually released LZ1-4, Houses Of the Holy, Physical Grafitti, Presence, Song Remains the Same and the BBC Sessions (fabulous 4-LP box set). In Through The out Door and Coda will follow in the Summer.

I also heard a rumour that Classic may be doing a limited edition 4-LP set of How the West was Won.

I always get mine mail order from Diverse Vinyl (http://www.diversevinyl.com). You could also try Vivante (http://www.vivante.co.uk).
They're about £22-£25 for single LPs, £40 for doubles. about £80 for the BBC box. I don't know how much the first 4 LPs box is.
