Kate Bush CD's

Posted by: Henners on 29 November 2007

As a vinyl owner of most of Kate Bush's output and now wanting CD's, does anyone know, before I splash the cash if the latest (2006) crop of cd releases are remastered.

I have an early copy of Hounds of Love and its in the pants section of sonic quality.

I would stick to the vinyl if I was you. Kate Bush on vinyl is really unbeatable, stick to what you have.
Most of KB discs are only "acceptable" at best.

I agree with Jim in the main. But The Sensual World, Hounds of Love and Aerial are all OK.

Her other CDs are not unpleasant, just veiled compared to the vinyl. They sound like a 3rd or 4th generation recording compared.

Many moons ago i used to own on vinyl:

THE KICK INSIDE
LIONHEART
NEVER FOR EVER
THE DREAMING
HOUNDS OF LOVE

I now have the same music in CD which imo are just as much enjoyable! : )

I'm very suprised to read about people unhappy with the EMI CD version and i'm wondering if it's because my Kate Bush CD's are earlier disc's (purchased in the early 90's) which may have been reproduced better then, than how they are these days...?

Also, i notice amazon and hmv have early Kate Bush albums on Japanese Import label for about 10ukp each, ("there goes a tenner"!), pardon the pun. Does anyone know if these are an improvement...?

Hi Nymph,

No, they are no better (sound wise), I tried The Kick Inside and Sensual World. It's just the packaging.

Im going to try one and see what happens as neither the kate bush or emi websites give any useful info on the subject.

You guys have just given me a mission

I have old vinyl copies of Kick Inside and Hounds of Love plus CD copies. I will be visiting a friend in the next week that is running a much loved (modified) LP12 and a Naim CDX - I will have to do the comparison although the turntable has many unfair advantages (interconnects, dollars invested etc etc).

The Dreaming remaster came out very well but from all accounts is the only diamond in an otherwise brown pile. It was the first and as it turned out, the only CD remaster that we bought. We were very happy with it but backed off on the basis of feedback voiced on the other titles. As Munch says, Aerial is fine on CD, we won't need to wait for a decent remaster of that.
