NAC82 & phono modules

Posted by: Den on 05 March 2002

Ok, I know this question comes over and over again, but searching the forum didn't really give me the answer. Is boardpulling worth it in the case of a NAC82? Anyone on the forum who actually did this? What kind of improvement can I expect? Can I just take them out, or do I have to replace them with blanc cards? When you buy a new 82 are there phono boards installed?

Thank you all,
Dennis

I initially replaced the phono boards with blanks (i was told i had to), then finally pulled the blanks as well.

A small noticeable improvement.

there's only one removeable board in the 82 - the phono board, which is in line with the BNC jacks. One can insert link boards in this position for direct connection of line level sources via the BNC's (an extra input, effectively)... but thats it. HTH.

Admittedly I was using a CDS2; and running the 82 off of a Supercap, but I reckon CD sounded quite a bit better with the phono boards removed.

I now use a Stageline; driven off of a Hi-Cap.
