What group would you like to see do a reunion gig
Posted by: Guido Fawkes on 11 December 2007
With the positive thread about Led Zep and most enjoying the brief Floyd reunion a short while ago and some not too long ago great re-union gigs by Colosseum, ELP and the Pretty Things. Just wondered who'd you'd like to see from the past give it go. Or do you think what has passed is best left as a fond memory?

Not so much a reunion, but if Kate Bush could be persuaded to tour again, or even just do one concert, I'd be there come hell or high water...

Just a few I can think of in fantasy gig land.....
Free, The Faces, SAHB, Rory Gallagher, The Who (with Keith Moon), Allmans with Duane, Thin Lizzy (with Phil L and Brian Robertson), Zep pre '79, Deep Purple (with Blackmore/Gillan/Glover/Paice & Lord) Golden Earring, Wishbone Ash (with M Turner, T Turner, Upton and Powell), Genesis (with Gabriel), The Smiths, Echo & the Bunnymen (with Pete DeF), SRV with Double Trouble, Lynryd Skynryd (with Van Zant, Gaines etc.), John Mayall's BB (with Mick Taylor & John McVie), Nirvana.
If I had to pick one fantasy gig - Free supported by Rory Gallagher.

Me too, but then I'd go to hear Kate sing excerpts from the telephone directory.

Mayall toured with Taylor 3 years ago. I know, I was there in Buxton.

Queen with their true front man but alas

Very topical and terribly predictable but it's still Led Zep for me - preferably not in that poxy O2 arena. OK - anywhere would do fine!!

Dire Straits, the original 'line-up' would be great, but unlikely.

My wish has already come true. VdGG re-united, released a new album and played some storming gigs. New album due in 2008.
I'd also like to see The Chameleons back together again.
The Undertones with Feargal. Saw them a few years ago at Guilfest with a Feargal Sound-alike on vocals. He was good but still not Feargal. The band were superb though.

Looking at your list, I was soo lucky to see several of the bands you mention with the line up you wish for!
Also, Polarbear, I saw Queen with FM at the front

Mine's the same as yours, Steve, but without your headline band.

On the other side of the same coin, a band that actually is reuniting in 2008 is Chick Corea's original Return To Forever band, with Stanley Clarke, Al DiMeola, and Lenny White.
I wish they wouldn't.
All the best,
Fred

I'd encourage you to listen to Trespass and hear what you think of John Mayhew - it would have been good if John had stayed with the group for a few more records and the chance to hear him one more with Peter Gabriel et al would be something that I should genuinely like to hear. I think those who knock Genesis would be quite surprised on how together they could sound on those early albums.

Much as though I love Trespass, Collins is in another league to Mayhew. This doesn't of course mean you have to like him more - but listening to Collins perform the early songs takes them to another level. I'd love to work with him - time he was resurrected as a drummer's drummer methinks.....

I'd love to see the Moody Blues that did the albums like Days Of Future Passed, In Search Of The Lost Chord and Threshold Of A Dream reunite for a one-off gig. Apart from the Beatles, perhaps no other band has affected me as much; call me soft, but these guys' first seven albums were magic. I never got to see 'em live, so take a bow:
Mike Pinder - Mellotron, keyboards, vocals
Justin Hayward - guitar, vocals
Ray Thomas - flute, vocals
John Lodge - bass, guitar, vocals
Graeme Edge - drums, spoken word
I know some think the Moodies rather corny, but they did some incredible, lush melodic pop with great harmonies and the mighty Mellotron providing the backdrop. It's a pity Ray's retired, and Mike somewhat distanced from the others - a night at (say) the Albert Hall would be grand, filmed for DVD for those of us who couldn't be there.
Another deep emotional connexion for me:
Pete Ham
Joey Molland
Tom Evans
Mike Gibbins
...Badfinger. Sadly, this one is impossible until we're all gathered together in the hereafter (Joey alone remains upon this mortal coil.)
Last, not least, the Grand Hotel-era Procol Harum. B.J. Wilson r.i.p.
