Band on 'The Culture Show' last evening?

Posted by: J.N. on 17 February 2008

I just caught the end of the band playing out the end of last night's 'Culture Show' on Beeb 2 over the credits.

I rather liked it. Was it Moby?

Ta.

Thanks BigH. What a wonderful source of musical knowledge this forum is.

Anyone know what the piece was called?

Funny, I just caught the end too as the kids were swapping channels and thought them geeky and good. Will have to explore further Smile

Did someone say "Whitest Boy Alive"?

The album is called "Dreams" and it's excellent - ten spiky pop gems, clocking in at just under 40 minutes - short and sweet, the way they used to make 'em.

Erland Oye, the lead singer, is one half of the Norwegian duo, "Kings of Convenience", who have released two fine albums. These are also well worth getting, if you like something with a folkier/acoustic tinge. Both are modern classics, in my view.

I thought they were great too. Better than the guy doing Thriller, at any rate. Very geeky specs!

Looks like Jack Michaelson has been under the knife again

I've replayed the show via the Beeb i-Player.

Lovely lazy groove I thought - complete with the classic sound of a Fender Rhodes.

'Golden Cage' was the piece they played, and it's on 'Dreams' - which I've ordered.

That'll be Lightspeed Champion who has some great sounding stuff, check his myspace. The Micky J cover tho was almost 'pub rock' IMO - awful

Thaks for the i-Player tip, John - that's a nice performance from Erland, and the boys. The Fender Rhodes organ goes really well with the song but (managing expectations) does not feature on the album version. It's still a great album though!
