Ken,

Have a look at screwfix.com as they have quite a range and some on offer at the moment. That would be my starting point to establish prices and then I'd have a look around teh local companies and haggle.

Willy.

From a tradesmans point of view
#1 Decide how big a shed you need.
#2 Put down a base either 3x2 slab`s on a stone sub-base then on a wet mix of sand/cement or a concrete slab on a sub base of stone.
#3 Find a reputable shed manufacturer [ they will usually deliver the shed and erect it for you ] JOB DONE Winker Big Grin

At my last house I erected a nice summer house/shed and the kids loved it, so when we moved to our new house, I thought I'd do the same on some difficult to know what to do with space to the side of my house on a lower level to the main garden....... This time I thought ok, the kids like their own little house so lets have a proper one with a lttle porch in front of the shead - Nice for them you'd think!

They never used it Roll Eyes However, we do now store some spare bikes and hay for their guinea pigs! Saves having to store the stuff elsewhere - so very useful.

I'd have to claim it's the very biggest shead I could fit in the space... It's 12 feet wide in a space that's about 13 feet wide at the back tapering down to 12 feet 2 inches! With walls on two sides and a fence on the other, it took some constructing, all levelled concrete slabs for the base on concrete etc. It was well worth the effort I guess, covering an otherwise usless muddy patch. LOL!

I wouldn't be without it now Smile

Kind regards,

Peter

you have hit the nail on the head -- they key is "reputable" and that i what i am looking for -- in other words -- if you happen to know someone who has done good jobs on this, then i'd like to know. I dont want to pick names from yellow pages or whatever.

thanks for responding...

ours will be about 12x8 -- i want to use it both for storage and as a summerhouse. i dont fancy doing this myself -- hence asking if anyone knew a reputable contructor.

Go to your local garden centre they should have various size`s erected for inspection, that`s what we did.
And going back to previous post make sure you leave ample room around the shed for maintainance and to keep the grass from growing up the side of the shed, if you lay the slab`s on a bed of sand and cement make sure the shed is raised of the ground by a couple of inch`s this will keep it dry underneath.
