Heard her this morning on R2. Think she only has a single out, hope there is more to come....

Yeah, me too. I heard her single 'mercy' and saw the video a couple of weeks ago.

Sounds (and looks) good!

I heard the single a few weeks ago on Radio 2 and liked her voice. They have also had various ther sessions of her which I haven't liked so much but will wait until cd comes out before making judgemnet.

ah ewemon

i thouht there was faint similarities of aretha (dare i say it) in her voice, but afterlistening to aretha all night she doesn't come close, but who does - inver loved a ..... must be one of the greats. But i'm looking forward to the album. Something new is always something interesting. Looking to the past is no guide to the future and all that! Anyway i've had a bottle of wolf blass and a few shots of hine so i'll excuse myself. Speak soon, trust you are well.

Excellent song.

Is this the start of a Northern Soul revival.

She was the best performer on the Jools Holland new years eve show by a mile.

Sunday Times have raved about the disc in this weeks paper.

If you pop over to Amazon there is 2 videos up to watch as a taster for the disc.

I really didn't want to like Duffy,
I think because I subconsciously pigeon-holed her as a manufactured act.

Mrs. 555 really likes her, so 'Rockferry' has been on in the background for three days.
I really like it! I haven't listen to it on my main system yet,
so not sure how well it's been produced/mastered.

From what I've heard on the TV ads during Shameless last night, she sounds talented and un-manufactured, but I just can't stand her voice.

Not as annoying as Jeff Buckley (who's also musically talented), but near enough to make me want to avoid the album like the plague.

Sorry folks Smile

I have the album; I really like it.

The mastering is ok, not bad, but not as good as one would like.

Hi Peter,

A bit loud and peak limited (the new phrase for compression) wouldn't you say? Pity, a good voice that is not allowed full reign. Typical "Loudness War" victim.

This is what really puts me off modern recordings.

Hi Steve

Yes it is a shame. I really like her voice but it is certainly limited by the shabby mastering. The Amy Macdonald album is quite a bit better. But I prefer Duffy music wise.

Steve,

If only modern artists thought in the same way as this lady. . . .

My B-I-L has loaned me Duffy - after all the hype I was full of expectation but safe to say I think it's not very good. And as to comparisons with Dusty or Aretha - please!!!! Now Shelby I heard at Bristol CD on order.

But the Bedini makes the music better Winker.

I look forward to you bringing it round. Smile

Especially if it can make that disc sound half decent. It's headache material at decent volume.

Hi Munch,

I'm playing it again this morning, I really like it and as long as you don't try turning it up too much it's OK. What a missed opportunity though. A good mastering with full range and this would be a bit good.

I have invited John and may see him this week.

Wow, fantastic. I'll definitely be investing in some of her music then! My kind of girl.

Jamie Wednesday and I were having this conversation at the show today. I wanted to buy the Duffy LP as I like her but was put off by the comments that the recording quality was not so good. I was also saying that really I should not think this way, and that if I like the music I should just buy it, but unfortunately, it does put me off if the recording is poor. Wrong I know.

I agree with Steve, yet another missed opportunity for a good modern artist. If it's mainstream pop, who cares? But those with real talent should be more mindful.

Hi Mark,

I'm still glad I got the album, it's good. The recording wouldn't be the worst you have come across, I'm sure. It's just frustrating that her great voice isn't given full range. It sounds OK at moderate levels.

Thanks Steve, I will buy it, probably in a couple of weeks, though. I bought two records yesterday and had three turn up in the post on Saturday. I've also got 2 red and white postcards I'm hiding at the moment!

And we're supposed to be on an economy drive at the moment as the mortgage has just gone up!

Just out of interest, has anybody heard the vinyl release of 'Rockferry', and if so, does it suffer the same issues as the CD?
