Seasick Steve Recommendation

Posted by: JamieL_v2 on 20 October 2009

I really enjoyed Seasick Steve's performance on Jools Holland last week, and especially playing with Dan Magnusson on drums.

I was really blown away by Magnusson's drumming, and have liked Seasick Steve in the past, but together I thought it rather special.

I like his solo performances, but would like to get something with Magnusson playing with him, I notice there is an album 'Seasick Steve & The Level Devils', or do people think the last couple of albums are a better place to start?

Jamie, I think Dog House is a good place to start also available on the Black Stuff1

Thanks Blueknowz.

Does it have drums? Being a drummer, much as I like Seasick Steve's playing, it is the drums that are the 'cherry on the cake' for me.

Thanks Jim

I will do some Amazon shopping soon, although with the post strike, maybe the weekend is worth waiting for.

Jamie,
I think we got ISOWNAISHMOIL as a 2 for £10 at HMV. I think they had Dog House there too.
Might avoid the postal probs.

This popped through my door on Friday, just as I was leaving the house for the w/e working away... Listened to it yesterday. Really like it. And - to my ears - pretty well recorded. (Oh, and I say that as a Seasick Steve fan; I have all of his albums, and bought the first tickets for his forthcoming gig at Cambridge Corn Exchange, etc, etc.)

Thanks JWM, didn't realise he was touring. Will check with the other half, and probably go see him in Manchester.

This is the only CD of his that I've heard and it's pretty sweet ...

Got tickets for Leeds, which interestingly was not listed as part of the tour by Ticketmaster.

I presume that the Academy has a specific deal with Ticketweb for their sales.

Looking forward to it.

I saw him at Royal Albert Hall, awesome and such a nice bloke, he must have shook hands with half the audience, you could see he couldn't really believe it was all happening to him.

There are a couple of entries in the gigs you have seen thread that echo your statement, he is a lovely bloke.
