My TV volume goes down on occasion, switching the channels back and forth causes the volume to revert to the original level
Any ideas why?

Do you have some kind of automatic volume regulation function active?
A lot of TVs have such options because the commercial stations lower the volume during the movies to blow it all up for the advertisement...
With my last CRT TV, I had to deactivate that feature. Although the idea was good and worked well when advertisement switched in.
But when I watched a concert with dynamic sound, it was inadvertently activated at any other dynamic attack and lowered the volume. The enjoyment was completely spoiled.
