HDX ethernet error: "Socket access forbidden"

Posted by: Roger71 on 14 June 2009

Hi,
Has anybody experienced this error before when trying to connect with the HDX through the desktop client using an ethernet connection. When scanning for the HDX, the desktop client finds the device, but then when selecting it and clicking on 'OK' to access it I get the following error: "Failed to connect to the Naim device located on 192.168.2.103: Error: An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissons".

Desktop client is inclkuded in my firewall exception list.

Any suggestions?

Hi Roger,

I'm owning a HDX for ten days now, so I'm hardly a pro... Is it possible that your router gave the HDX for some reason another IP adress?

Click the "Scan for Naim devices" button again when starting the desktop client.

Hope this helps...

Michel

are you running DTC as adminastrator?

Are you running XP or Vista? The desktop client works well on XP, but not on Vista. Solution from Customer Support at Naim (work around solution for Vista):

Open Computer>Vista(C)>Program Files>Naim - select the app DigiFi.Desktop.UI, select preferences, then security. Under Group or User names, select Users, then change permissions (click edit). Under Permissions for Users, select full control, modify, and write. Click apply, then ok.

You also need to open the control panel, go to user accounts, open User Account Control (UAC), and deselect it. The computer then needs to be restarted.

Now, the Desktop Client works like a charm.

Roger, if you're in the U.S., give us a call tomorrow in Indianapolis.

Thanks Docmark,
I'm indeed using Vista. I'm at work now, will try later and let you know if it works...

David,
I live in Australia, awkward time difference, thanks for offer to help, might take you up on it if docmark's suggestion doesn't work.

Strange thing, the HDX Owners Manual states:

The HDX Desktop Client is an application that can be installed on a PC running Microsoft Windows XP or Vista.
