Contributors - a request.

Posted by: Chunny Nochubb on 25 September 2002

There have been various postings in the last few months about - “what system do you have?” or - “are you completely non-Naim?” etc. Some of the replies mentioned the custom of listing your system under the biography section of the user profile.

As a complete amateur, I find it very helpful to get a more detailed understanding of the point that contributor is trying to make if I can cross-reference it to their system.

I appreciate that people who own a £100,000 system are not necessarily better informed than those with a £1000 system, but when they state opinions such as “my system does this…” or “I find that with my system…”, it is helpful to know what system they are talking about.

So come on those of you who haven’t done it, please click under “my pop” at the top of the page and update your biographies.

Chubby,

It's also a matter of privacy. Sure, it might be nice and helpful to know about other people's setups, but specifying your location and a pricy system in your profile might as well be taken as an invitation by some of our fellow citizens with criminal intentions.

Cheers,

Edo (who has an el cheapo system, in forum perspective)

I didn't request for that, most people like you keep their location vague, but system specific would be a help.

Chunny:

Check out systems analysis for more information about particular members kit than you ever wanted to know.

my silly username is only to preserve some anonymity for security reasons which wouldn't have been possible even with a vague location, (despite what the thankfully absent Vuk may have said.)

Well we have talked about retaining anonymity, of systems, location and identity, and obviously the amount people want to reveal about themselves varies from nothing to pretty much everything including pictures.

Dr. Rockingdoc – You have the wherewithal to open up an email address that is able to maintain your anonymity, something that some of us with silly names have not done – so why did we bother with it in the first place?
However it pity that you choose to do so as it would be nice to visit your surgery and hear you prescribe “a large dose of rhythm and blues” to those patients you deem to be in need.

Mr. Bye – You have resurrected the “systems analysis” thread. I tried to search for it but failed, it is very interesting, very long and given that it started 2 years ago, it is also out of date for some of the entries, however like you, most of the contributors have filled in their biographies on their profiles.

I suppose I should create my own database from the entries to study at my leisure but I am not going to.

So as the French say “Jack Assongoo” and meantime, I missed the opportunity to pick up a free pair of DBLs yesterday, as I came up to London by bike due to the tube strikes.
It would have meant a detour across town and a quick break in and entry. It wasn’t that I was concerned about how I would strap the speakers on to my pannier racks but I just couldn’t think of a way to wall mount them when I got them home.
