So I take it - you've never been to Scunthorpe.

Yes, definitely the street party was cancelled this year and my missus was nearly blown across the street when we went out on Hogmanay! We were indoors most of the night luckily, though as we didn't have street party tickets.

My good friend James (JWM hereabouts) alerted me to an available 'Smply Vinyl' copy of 'Bryter Layter' so I just had to have it.

'Pink Moon' at sensible money is proving to be a problem though.

Nick just didn't like performing and hardly ever spoke to anybody - most of the characters he sung about like Hazy Jane were characters he made up, they weren't about anybody. He lived a lonely life with his room in his mother's house in Dudley (IIRC) - just like Syd did in Cambridge. He made some great records just like Syd. It is said that he never understood why people didn't buy his records - unfortunately most people had never heard them. Nick Drake's guitar playing is extraordinary. One of the truly great singer songwriters.

Bryter Layter is a fantastic album and it's not even his best IMO.

You can get Five Leaves Left for under £5 from Amazon, must be the bargain of the century.

Scotty

I came THAT close to buying Stevie Ray Vaughan's Texas Flood when I was in Graham's last Saturday.

How good do you reckon it is? Could it be the same copy I passed up?

I'll keep looking, John, and we'll come up trumps on Pink Moon! I'm so glad the Bryter Layter worked out ok.

Scotty

I also have built for comfort and Robert Lucas - luke and the locomotives on audioquest. Both good time albums where you feel the band are having fun.
I also have on audioquest The Bruce Katz Band - cresent crawl; but I have to confess I can't remember playing it!

If you would like to sample some VINYL in a 'try before you buy' kind of event I would be happy to drop some round. If your interested, drop me a mail via my Profile. I'm sure we could find some musical common ground and perhaps a few surprises.

BTW - My home is near Epping
