I dipped my toes into the classical pond and bought the following from Tony on the pfm forum:

Beethoven – Sonatas (Pathetique / Appassionata / Moonlight), Barenboim, 60s HMV HQS 1076

Brahms / Beethoven – Violin Concerto / Two Romances, Yehudi Menuhin /Lucerne Festival Orchestra / Wilhelm Furtwangler, HMV Treasury Series monoHLM 7015

Handel – Concerti Grossi OP6 7, 8, 9, 11 & 1, 2, 4, 5, HMV ASD 491 & HMV ASD 604. Two separate LPs released within two years of one another – ASD 491 dates from 1962 and is a first pressing on the gold / cream label

Mozart – Piano Concerto No 22 K482 / Sonata No 16 K570, Barenboim / Vienna Radio Orchestra / Somogi, 1964 HMV CSD 1599 with red/black label

I cribbed the above descriptions from the pfm descriptions. So I'll give them a spin over the weekend & see how these old discs stand up after such a long life.

hi peter,
i fancy getting a bit of holst-planets on a good vinyl pressing. any ideas where to look ?
i got 1812 overture the other day but was not as impressed with the vinyl release as i was by the cd by mercury living presence-which has real cannons from that era.
EXCELLENT! Winker

Scotty

I don't know this version but Holst -LAPO/Zubin Mehta is available from Diverse Vinyl
My first Classical LP was on EMI; The Planets - Sir Adrian Boult (1967) and I also have a Decca version by Charles Dutoit (1987). Both available for a listening session soon Winker
