Question for Adam

Posted by: J.N. on 25 April 2005

Adam;

My 'Graham's hydra' thread has disappeared.

Why so?

John.

John,

I didn't read all of the thread but I noticed in the latter stages it started to degenerate into an argument between Dave Whitter and the rest about the supposed direction of certain electrical components which I hesitate to name for erm... obvious reasons!

It also included a link to another forum - that alone would be reason enough for me.

Regards,

Jon

and why was the Fairwell to Naim thread locked?
Posted on: 25 April 2005 by hungryhalibut
The hydra thread degenerated to a state where it contravened Forum rules. The Farewell thread, however, was a very interesting (mostly) debate and I don't really see why it was killed off.

Perhaps Adam could enlighten us?

Let's face it...

If you are a new customer and see a thread entitled "Farewell to Naim", what would you think?

Even though it was "a thumping good read" it does not project a very positive end result for Naim products.

You guys are good.

The Grahams Hydra thread had got all messy and I judged Mos-fet to be a troll. Plus the level of comment had dropped to a low.

I am afraid I deleted it rather than pick through removing the bones.

As a newcomer to Naim I thought the thread was very interesting and in no way did it project a negative image. Is this Forum solely to promote a positive image of Naim? This is an honest question because I do not want to be part of the forum if that is the policy.

Does Naim contribute towards the costs of the forum?
Posted on: 25 April 2005 by Adam Meredith
The Farewell to Naim thread had interesting stuff in it but, in my judgement, had exceeded its first post of - "Hi, this is not anti NAIM but I have found something nice that I like and only costs £24,000".

And YES - eventually a "Farewell to NAIM" thread can run for so long but I saw no reason for it to stay at Number One like some Bryan Adams song.

Mark,

from what I saw there was a balanced debate going on, yes there were a few derogatory remarks but isn't there in all debates.

I didn't follow every post but I read some of it and I found it very interesting.

Rest assured - no problem with such threads. However - this forum is not solely to project a negative image of NAIM.

Adam

If you could close Bryan Adams down that would be a real public service.

Adam,

You appear to have ignored my questions. Could you please reply? Many thanks.

Who else do you think pays for the Naim forum?

To cost of the Forum is met wholly by Naim, I believe. For this investment, they get feedback from an 'informed use base', but clearly can only tolerate so many 'Naim is crap' threads. On 99% of occasions everyone sticks within the rules and all is well.

I would not have asked the question if I knew the answer.

Thank you Nigel. So it is a user feedback forum for Naim which can be modded to give the right feedback to Naim regardless of what the user base really thinks... Gottit.

To be fair Lucifer, Naim do listen to feedback whether its possitive or negative.

Obviously though they will only put up with a certain amount of Naim bashing which is understandable.

Good to have a New Member so demanding -
Your questions appear to be:
"Is this Forum solely to promote a positive image of Naim?"
to which I answered:
"Rest assured - no problem with such threads. However - this forum is not solely to project a negative image of NAIM." Which, I now realise, requires a little work to see as an answer.
The second may be:
"Does Naim contribute towards the costs of the forum?"
Which entirely passed me by.
My answer is:
"No - NAIM do not contribute toward the costs, NAIM pay for the forum entirely"
I didn't bother with the question as I didn't understand who else would be paying for "The NAIM Forum".

Naim is actually pretty tolerant of negative feedback, and certainly of posts such as "I didn't fell that product x was worth the extra money....". The only time I've ever had anything negative to say (and it wasn't so much negative, as my not being able to find something that was packed with a bit of kit I'd had serviced), Adam was extremely quick to respond and very helpful. I also recall a thread a while back where someone posted the dreadful situation of having lost their puck inside their cdx2 on a saturday night, and that same night Adam posted some directions for him to get the case open to find it.

You get a good deal here, there are some fairly simple rules, and some fairly common sense. If don't want to live with it, you're free to go somewhere else. Naim bear the entire cost of the forum, and so they have every right to set whatever rules the like, ultimately (while there will always the occasional exception), I think they strike good balance.

regards,

Tam

did not get to read what mos-fet posted, as thread had gone, but if it was to do with the hydra, would have loved to have got to read it.

even if he had a troll hat on, he does know what he is talking about

He was blatently trolling IMO, Maybe he knows his stuff but he didnt appear to be very objective or interested in getting ALL the facts before delighting in concluding we were all going to be electrocuted!

Then ultimately, Naim's customers wholly (albeit indirectly) fund the Naim forum. Seems to me, anyway.

They even pay for donuts.
And Adam's psychiatric support.

I think the point is that we don't pay for it directly, i.e that we haven't specifically bought it as a service and therefore don't really get to quibble over the rules/moderation.

In so far as concerns the hydra, my only issue would be that it's no good for my flatcap (which has a captive lead), nor my other non naim items, and so I'd still need to use my gang plug. That said, it does look like a nice solution.

Tam
