Just booked for his manchester show. Can't wait. I think he's the only artist I'd pay that kind of money to see though.

Hey that is a snip compared to my Led Zep ticket. Worth every penny though..

Excellent, bought 4 for Edinburgh (Row P) ............. Come on Ian it's Neil Young

As much as I like live gigs some of these guys or their promoters are taking the piss with the prices.A more experienced act should not have to charge any more than a newbie, regardless who they are.£150 buys alot of his music or towards some equipment to hear it.

£70 per ticket PLUS £7 booking fee per ticket. They can fuck right off. Yet again, sheer, piss-takin' greed.

Well, that is one way of looking at it. On the other hand Neil Young is a world class act and for him to be playing in the UK for this sort of money I would have thought was quite good value.
Just try running the cost of these tickets vs the cost of some Naim kit past someone at your local pub.......

Just because they are "big" artists does that mean they cost more to put on? They use the same venues as the other lesser stars.
Is it the stars them selves?
Is it just their "people" who know by supply and demand they can ask what ever they want and get it?
Do the stars know what is being charged on their behalf?
Nothing new here SWMBO paid £50 to see Rod Stewart in the 70s ,what price now at that rate?

Like the led Zep gig, these guys are millionaires many times over. Sheer greed on the promoters part, no other word for it. I'd be willing to pay about £45 for a big act in London. Anything over that is just shitting on the fans.
I LOVE Neil Young. I saw him at Finsbury Park in the 90's and he blew me away. I would love to see him again but I refuse to be fleeced.

Malky, I'm going to both nights at the Manchester Apollo, first on row B, second night on row C. I'll post on the 13th March to tell you how good he was

I think it is fair value to see a genius in a little hall. You can pay that for a good meal, a ticket for a dull football match (or a good one), a pantomine or a London Show. You pay's your money you takes your choice

True, but it doesn't cost any more for a great painter to buy canvas and paint than a lesser painter. Would you still expect to pay the same price for both paintings?

hardly selling 7-10,000 paintings at a time though do they?

No, but it is all relative IMO.
I have a friend who is an artist. I have known him for about 25 years . Back then I could have bought one of his paintings for about 80 - 100 UKP. He has just had a show where it was a sell out on the opening night with many works selling in th 8,000 - 12,000 UKP range.
Is he a better artist now that back then? Yes, I think he is but maybe ony 25% better. Is his work worth 10K each now? I don't know, it's too rich for me but many others don't feel that way.
I don't see why you think Neil Young should be playing to quite small halls, by his standard, for maybe £20.00? Would you expect to pay the same seat price for a Man United match as a Bristol City one?
He has worked his way up to the top of his game and so can charge this sort of fee, and no doubt sell out.
As for the recent Zeppelin gig I was one of the lucky ones that got seats for just £125.00 plus a few extras.
While I was getting my tickets at the 02 I got chatting with many fans from all over the world. Some got tickets for the same price as me, others paid quite a bit more. Added to this were air fares, hotels, time off work etc etc. I don't think anyone before and certainly not after the gig thought that they did not get good value.
Expensive? YOU BET, but an expereince that will live with us for the rest of our lives.

Absolutely agree.
NY could have played the Arena's, asked the same ticket price and sold out all dates and made more money. He has chosen to play smaller hall's which is great for the fan's who want a more intimate experience

The promoters can charge £75 per ticket, knowing that they will sell out. You have a choice, you swallow the price and buy, or not. You will most probably have a wonderful evening in a fantastic concert hall rather than a soulless arena.
I'm not arguing with any of that but it is still overpriced to the point of cynical disregard for the fans. It's not the millionaire rock stars so much as the promoters who set these prices. Still, I remember Pearl Jam setting a cap on ticket prices. I go to see Dylan every tour and I can't remember paying more than about £45. Anyway, I've bitten the bullet and booked two tickets but only 'cause it's Neil Young.
(They're up on Ebay already, sickening).

Take a look at the "Ticket Sales" web sites, they acknowledge the face value of say £55 and sell at £185.This is even more obscene than the original prices.

appear to be sold out already - tried for the saturday show at apollo

Richwleeds, I'll sell you a pair for £600.

Think of it like this, you can pay £65 for a Bruce Springsteen ticket at a venue which holds 40-50,000 and has no acoustic merit whatsoever, or £75 for Mr Young in the Hamm appollo holding say 4,000(?) which has great acoustics , oh and you'r not 150 yards from the stage! Sounds like a bargain to me. I'm in row "H" central stalls.
