Hmmmm. I just realized, after 2 years, that I have had my speakers out of phase (?!) I never noticed that the outputs of the amp went +- -+. I guess I got used to the sound of it, because when I turned one of the wires upside down, all of the sudden the music seems to be coming from all over the place, with the singer having lost her focus. Did having the speakers out of phase cause an exagerated compressing of the music to the center, or is there something else going on. I'm very confused. Could I have caused some damage to my speakers from running one out of phase?

sorry, false alarm. I just took a second look, and seems my wires were molded to the plugs correctly to compensate (plugs also go +- -+.)

You reminded me of things years ago when speaker cable wasn't marked + - and we used to put a small battery across the two ends of the cable to see which way round it should go - ie. the cones extended forward. I'd completely forgotten about that, dunno if it might be harmful, but it didn't seem to be.

Discovering you had your speaker connections out-of-phase for the last two years must be the cheapest upgrade you can get

At least now you know what out of phase sounds like...
