Anyone watching Murray on centre court at the moment?

Great game. Murray's really getting a run for his money and I reckon the balance of play appeared to have swung back to Wawrinka after Murray came back well in sets two and three.

However, Murray is coming on strong again at just the right time.

And the floodlights are fantastic, it's hard to tell the difference from real daylight.

Oops, Wawrinka just broke him back.

3-3 final set after Murray was 3-0 up, momentum definitely with Wawrinka now.

4-3 Murray, b***er me!

5-3 Murray. Phew!

Murray wins 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. What a game!

3 hours 57 minutes and Wimbledon's latest ever finish. Murray's into the last eight, but how much has that taken out of him?

At least he has 2 days to recover....a tough one but he needed a tough match like that I think.

Wow....my stomach is still in knots after that.

Superb I knew Murray would win as soon as he hit that winner on match point. Stan just wouldn't give up though - great game.

Watched the whole match earlier, and as I said in another thread will have to eat my words about Murray not being entertaining.

Sorry Exiled Highlander.

That was a great match.

Good as the match was I simply can't see Murray taking three sets off Federer on this surface.
He couldn't do it last year on his favourite surface so I think a place in the final is the best he can hope for,

Great sport. Neither player really took a step backwards, Wawrinka deserves great credit, not just for his play but for dealing with the patriotic crowd.

I'm not terribly engaged by tennis most of the time but occasionally you get a game of great skill and also those fascinating fluxes in form, confidence and momentum.

To my very amatuerish eyes Murray desperately needs a better service, second serve in particular. Nadal took his serve apart last year.

I thought the Beeb commentary (with McEnroe especially) really added a lot to the subtleties of the game yesterday.

Bruce,

I totally agree about McEnroe's commentating skill. His ability to communicate what a top quality player is/should be thinking is first class. It was fasinating to here his thoughts on Michael Jackson last friday lunchtime. John drew parallels with overbearing parents (MJ's father) and especially female tennis players. I think the BBC have struck gold by having an ex player, who has ACTUALLY WON at the highest level and can explain clearly to us mere mortals.

That was actually the worst that Murray has served either throughout Queens or at Wimbledon. His 1st serve % has been into the 70%+ range with both pace and accuracy. So to win it last night while serving (relatively) poorly was a great achievement. His serve is actually a great weapon and is among the best in the game currently.

His 2nd serve is deceptive as he mixes it up a lot with slow kickers and wide slices - that said he does need to add some pace to it on occasions to mix it up more.

As for McEnroe, try his autobiography "Serious". It's great read and provides great insight into the character.

Rarely ever watch tennis but was enthralled by last nights game............ I'm now an official Murray Manic Eek

It could all have been so different had he not been in another part of Dunblane Primary School when Thomas Hamilton went crazy and killed those 17 kids and teachers in 1996.

It's a fickle thing the finger of fate!

I loved it when McEnroe was lost for words during some of the gratuitous camera shots during the intervals

I think Murray made some valid points about the challenges of learning to play under first time new conditions in a vital match, at the press conference.

Especially the very short heads up on the fact that the roof would be in place, after warming up outside in dry conditions, coupled with the humidity level on court and the fact that hard hit balls were 'slowed' by the conditions. This would have favored Stan's game since he had perhaps an easier time with his hard hitting style. Murray reckoned it had quite an impact on his serve and it does make sense.

Murray certainly seemed to be more dominant today playing outside.

Thought Murray was excellent that sort of performance can raise the roof.
