Gomez - In our gun

Anyone got Gomez "In our gun" yet? Joel??
I'd better rush out and buy it, being somewhat of a Gomez fan.
Somewhat non-committal review here.
Just wondering what ya'll thought about it.

Ok then - we'll just have to play tough. If nobody else can recall what a cracking band this is and buy their new album, then I'll have to buy it myself! Will keep you all posted!

Liquid Skin is the only Gomez album I have. But I like it. Are the others of the same standard?

John
if you don't yet have it, you should buy Bring it on - it's a cracking album.
Abandoned Shopping Trolley Hotline isn't as strong, but has its moments. More a sort of "fans only" thing IMHO. And yes, I have it too.
If you get a chance to see them Live, it's well worth a go - their sound is even more punchy than on the recordings, they're incredibly tight, and Ben Ottewell seems to have saved some of his already impressive vocal range in reserve for the live punters - a real treat. YMMV.

Well not quite but close
I picked up Liquid Skin out of the bargin bin last week and loved it from the first play. It was one of those albums that on the first play track after track you go "oh..I know that one". It's as if it's been following me around for a couple of years but never seemed to catch my eye.
Suitably impressed I picked up both In Our Gun and Bring It On (good saleman at the CD store!). Haven't listened to their latest but Bring It On also appears very strong if a little more raw than Liquid Skin. No bad thing, it's great listening to a band having a good time!
"Get myself arrested" is a complete classic. A good reminder of the good old days when I used to live in Hammersmith/Fulham. Plently of black beemers with tinted windows and interesting characters....
I crack up almost everytime I hear the lyric "He only grows for guys he know......and me."
Enjoy. Jay

I am a bit of a Gomez fan, I have all their albums;
In Our Gun
Abandones Shopping Trolley Hotline
Liquid Skin
Bring it on
All great, Abandoned is as rico says probably a fans only job, but the opening instrumental and ensuing song makes for great listening, and IMO a good auditioning track.
Story had it whilst I was at university 1996-1999, that the name Gomez was taken from the surname of a guy who was mates with the band. This guy, we will call him Mr G (i know all this as his sister was at university with me and we shared a group of friends) was allegidly in the business of growing and perveying a particular type of exotic herb, hence the line "He only grows...etc" from Get Myself arrested.
It was amusing - well I thought so anyway - when Mr G's sister we will call her Miss G, did in fact get herself arrested for distributing substances of a mind altering varity.
Art imitates life.
Please see important note below (the cover my arse paragraph)

All this is hearsay, quite posibly a myth and not meant to be slanderous or liablous in any way. It is not intended to offend anyone.
