Helicopter sound with phono boards

Posted by: mangold3000 on 05 May 2003

Hi forum
I just installed two phono boards of the NA323E type into my NAC72.
After switching the NAP140 on, I got a loud helicopter sound of at least a Super Puma. It chopped on all source selects, but on phono I could push the volume up to natural decibel rates. well, I didn't go that far...
No matter if the turntable was connected or not, the noise was there.
I sat the boards on 3rd and 4th position from right when you look at the motherboard with the front panel towards you.
Has anyone a slight idea what this could be?
Did I do somethig wrong?
Did I buy wrong phono boards?
Thanks for replying.
Cheers

what boards are in positions 5 & 6th?

i had exactly the same problem with a
s/h 72 & discovered that two sets of
phono boards were installed at the
same time!

removing the "spare" set from pos 5&6
solved the problem

...when I bought my 72 a few years ago.

The dealer had installed the phono boards onto the wrong pins!!!

E-mail naim about this, If I recall correctly there is a wire link that needs to be cut when phono boards are fitted to a 72. Forgive me if I'm wrong!

Best wishes,

Mickey

This is correct for later NAC 72s with just the one set of BNC sockets.
