Beth Orton - Daybreaker

Anyone else got this yet? What do you think?
I think it's almost as good as Central Reservation, and slightly better than Trailer Park (which I find to be a little too downbeat for regular listening).
No track which stands out as much as 'Pass In Time' off Central Reservation, but the single 'Concrete Sky' is pretty fine.
Steve.

Bought it on a whim from Fopp on Saturday (along with Eva Cassidy's Live at Blues Alley and Ozzy's latest)
I've not hear the earlier albums, but on the basis of this one, I wont be buying any more of hers or taking advantage of Fopps suck it and see returns policy.
In plain english I like it but not enough to go back for more (unlike with Eva)
PS Sorry, Ozzys lost it (the music now as well as the marbles)

First dip into the forum for a while -- pleasing to see Pellizzari and Petrik here again. Beth's new album about to move up my list.

Hey welcome back Joe - it's been far too long!
I have Daybreaker - seems pretty good to me. listened about 3 times now. Strong - more Beth Orton I guess.
I listened to Ben Christophers - Spoonface, directly afterwards at a friends place the other evening, and found myself preferring the Spoonface. Perhaps not comparing apples with apples genre-wise, but there you go.

Rico,
You've probably heard Ben Christophers' other stuff? I have Late Junction to thank for My Beautiful Demon.

Worth it for the last track, alone.
Wonderful.

I saw her live just one week ago at a taping for the e-Town radio show in Boulder. She did 'Concrete Sky' and several from Central Reservation, accompanied only by one other guitar.
The show was great, at the end she came out and sung lead vocal with JJ Cale on one of his tunes. I'd like to pick up a copy of her new album, does anyone know if it will be released on vinyl?
cheers,
Dan

Hi Dan,
Daybreaker is available on vinyl from the UK site www.diversevinyl.com.
It's on the Heavenly label.
Cost is £15.90, shipping £5 for a single album.
Maybe some of the other US members can help you out with a US based site, as the total cost is looking a bit high from here!
Regards,
Steve.

I've not - seems I'd better get out and acquire them post-haste!
Joe
Dude, weddings are for women. Much as I enjoyed and cherish the memory of ours, a sage observation was voiced by my barber 2 days before my wedding: "hell man, you'd better enjoy it - you're sitting there at the front, watching assembled friends and family slurp $20,000 from your pocket in just a couple of hours". men's lib section: Just remember: you're not the wedding planner! If it's any consolation, we planned and executed ours in under 6 weeks on the assumption that pain should be minimised rather than extended - and had a fab day to remember. At any rate, however you do it, enjoy! Ask Joe-bub for advice, his wounds are fresher

Having had Daybreaker for about a week now, I have had a good listen and it is growing on me fast.
Beths vocals are out of this world, and they realy come forward on this album.
The thing that I realy like is the fact that there is a lot more happening on this album, ie much more orchestral backing, and it compliments her voice, whilst not loosing to much of the haunting, empty sound of the other albums.
Having read the sleve, I noticed that many of the musians are from one of my favorite bands - My Life Story - worth a look if you like orchestral pop music.
