Let's have some fun.
This section of the forum can be a bit doom-and-gloom.
Answer the question and then ask another.
I'll start.
Q. What was the name of the B29 Superfortress that dropped the second atomic bomb? Correct spelling please.

Beano, since you ask about those Laplace functions, they're a naimotraumatisationiserfunctions, that's because of the effect they've had
on many a Naim dealer when they had to learn about this function in order to show they were worthy.
Actually what it does is this: imagine you have an electrical signal that comes out of your cd player.
You can describe the ups and downs of the signal over time as a mathematical function,
and you want to do things with this function, run it through electrical stuff so it becomes another function of time.
For example a bigger function that looks just the same.
Now when doing the math some people like to use "function kits".
These are sets of functions that are relatively easy to calculate with - at least for the subject at hand.
For example take a big bag of all sizes of sine functions. Laplace functions are similar, more general kit.
It's easy to find out what happens if you run those kit functions through the electrical setup
or its mathematical equivalent of running them through electrical stuff and look at the outcome.
Once we know how the function kit behaves, we don't have to run the actual music signal through the setup.
All we have to do is calculate what judicious adding up of 'kit' functions is needed to imitate the music signal we're interested in,
and then apply the same adding up to functions generated by the electronics working on the kit functions.
So the functions you list calculate "what this function f(t)looks like in terms of kit functions".

Good stuff Me ould segotia, I do hope you didn't phone a Friend for all that though! Only kidding Alexander; I'd have settled for Mathematical theorem used in control engineering or physics etc...

Who were Adeimantus and Glaucon?
Going back to m'old Herodotus, Adeimantus was the Corinthian commander at the Battle of Salamis 481BC, at which the Persians were finally trashed in their second invasion of Greece.
And going back to Thucydides, Glaucon was the commander of an Athenian at the battle of Corcyra 433BC , which really marked the beginning of the protracted Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta.
Unless you're thinking of Glaucon the brother of Plato.

Not the two I am looking for, but impressive knowledge none the less. Clearly the benefit of a classical education, James!

Well then, that'll be Adeimantus of Collytus (rather than Adeimantus of Corinth), the other brother of Plato.
"And he had brothers, whose names were Adimantus and Glaucon, and a sister called Petone, who was the mother of Speusippus." Diogenes Laertius, 'Life of Plato' IV.
