Ok Acad

Just before Alec Issigonis let the Morris Minor go to production he decided it needed a wider track - 4 inches wider. It was easy enough to build this in even though the jigs and tooling for production was already in place. But the four inches could not be hidden easily in the bonnet - hence the raised strip down the middle.

The four inch wider track made a huge difference to the car - and certainly made them better than the Austin peanut cars...

Coming from a ship building town which used too build surface boats with many streets named after the vessels built here...

She was scuttled by her Captain after being engaged by the HMS Exeter, HMS Ajax, and HMS Achilles which was actually a New Zealand Navy boat. The RN actually boarded her and salvaged the radar system off it.

My father was a young officer on the Ajax - I have some photos he took of the Graf Spee going down.

A doodlebug was the name the Brits called the German V-1 (vengance weapon 1) flying bomb.So named because of the strange noise the ram jet engine made.
