The 'Five Pillars' of Islam are the foundation of Muslim life:
So hopefully I'll be right, I'm not too sure about the last one though...
Faith or belief in the Oneness of God and the finality of the prophet hood of Muhammad;
Establishment of the daily prayers;
Concern for and alms giving to the needy;
Self-purification through fasting;
The pilgrimage to Makkah (Mecca or Hajj) for those who are able?

For centuries, musical practice has recognized six basic voice types: What are they?
Posted on: 08 April 2007 by JWM
Flat, sharp, in tune; too loud, too quiet, just right.

Nope, but your answer is applicable to certain musical genre

For men: bass, baritone and tenor
For women: Contralto(alto) mezzo soprano and soprano
I wonder where castrati fit into these types....
Cheers

Well done Rob.
Sex is one of the first determinants of voice type in the two categories, while body type or physical constitution is the second determinant: dimensions of the larynx vary in fairly strict conformity to body type. In an opera company, the leading female soloist (prima donna) is usually a soprano, the highest female voice. The leading man often has a high tenor voice. Singers with lower voices, such as the female contralto or the male bass, may also be used for solos.
A Castrati singer, (circa 1700), is a young male singer who has been castrated before puberty, in an attempt to retain a child like voice.

Staying with voices, which sex has the potential vocal agility to cover the most octaves and what is the world record for both sexes?

Men.
Basso, Tenor, Alto, Treble [Boy rather than man]. Also in the alto range is the counter tenor, which is ssung in the "falsetto voice" of an addult males bass.
They used to be a tradition of lady tenor singers, and what terrifying beasts they might have been!

Sort of Fredrik, what I was looking for is a more specific answer relating to the range in octaves a single person of either sex could produce rather than the range of octaves a selection of the voices from the sex could produce.
I agree though about the lady tenors; scary thought.
Cheers
Rob
PS, A wild guess, but would the breed from Shropshire be called the Shropshire?

Clun, or sometimes refered to as Clun Forest, though I don't think that is correct.
I do know that the Guiness Book of Records has details of the widest compass of any individual vocalist and it was a bass singer who traversed all the voice crossings from basso profundo right through to the "falsetto," but the details are lost on me now.
Bread of sheep, almost completely useless for meat, and kept the quality of wool? Mnay in Australia...

You've almost got me there Fredrik - the GBR has a female called Georgia Brown with a range of 8 octaves; the closest male has just 6!
Isn't 8 octaves more than the range of a grand piano?
Cheers

Dear Rob,
Isn't that amazing! I thought is was a man! Most pianos have eight octaves! I read the reference in the early seventies, so the memory played a trick on me there!
Dear Beano,
Sorry, I should have made it plainer that I was going for a Beef Breed! I think you are probably right about the Border Liecester being the most used sire to improve sheep meat production through out the world...
As well as the brilliant breed of cattle I am asking for in the post above, can anyone name a breed of sheep kept sometimes in UK [not commercially of course] which is part black and part white [woll coloured!] which has no value either for wool or meat?

Holstein for Milk production?
Hereford for Beef?
If the sheep your after looks like a goat, then the answer is Jacob?

Q. If Elvis is actually alive, what medical procedure would he be the first known survivor of?
Posted on: 09 April 2007 by u5227470736789439
Coming back from the dead, perhaps. Jesus was supposed to have done this of course, but perhaps this was slightly the result of poetic licence!
Fredrik
Gestation period of a horse is just over eleven months... It can vary a bit.
