Could an nSUB support a 50" TV on its stand?

Hi all,

I had to ask your advice on this issue, as in a future listening room I will have, the positioning of the nSUB would be most suited directly beneath the TV. Now I know the nBUB is a very sturdy and robust subwoofer, but if I put a protective rubber mat on it and then my 50" TV would that work??

Thank you for your advice.

Question probably best addressed to Naim, along with the weight of the TV/Stand.

If there is a good solid wall behind where you plan to site the TV, why not just fit a sturdy shelf to the wall, or a wall bracket for the TV?

Where do you plan to put the centre speaker? (if you have one)

In a similar position to you, I opted for the TV on the shelf, with the n-Cent and n-Sub below it. Smile

Thanks for that advice, Dungassin and fortunately I have just found a coffee table that appears stable and fits 'just' over the nSUB. I have a really strong intention of ensuring the bass sounds come straight from the centre....

Now with regard to the nCENT, my thoughts are to place this behing the TV but firing upwards. Is that advisable? I know this speaker does produce pretty clear vocals, so am I under-utilising it by blocking its direct sound by the TV being in the way??

Thanks again!

Jon - if the bass seems to be directional then you've probably got the filter frequency set too high. N cent - point outwards - you've got the same ring radiator tweeter as the n-Sats so the same dispersion properties. Put the n Sat above or below the TV, the Sub can be off to the side.

Cheers

No.

You'll be listening to its sound 90 degrees off axis and that is not the way that speaker was designed to work. Furthermore, the TV, wall and coffee table are going to create a ported box or horn of sorts. It is a pity to have such a nice speaker and then compromise it so much with that setup. Don't mean to be rude, but it reminds me of an analogy I sue. "It will be like Leonardo Da Vinci painting the Jokanda and then spitting on the canvas after it had been perfected."

I agree with James too. A properly set up subwoofer should sound invisible in regards to source location. Wish you the best Smile

I pretty much agree with the advice here. The centre speaker should get priority in positioning and alignment. The sub will be less picky about where it sits, but my experience is that placement is still important. I always tried to have the sub beween the main speakers, but found it didn't have to be central. If you find the positioning of the nSub too temperamental, you likely have the filters set wrong, like James says.
