LP12 and Fraim
Posted by: Don Braid on 23 February 2004
Greetings. Has anyone got opinions of what Fraims do to the sound of an LP12? I 've got a shelf that keeps beckoning the table, but I'm not sure it's worth the bother. Right now the LP12 is on a Sound Org with a homemade isolator on top. And yes, I have used a Mana Reference table in the past, but the thing was so bloody hard to keep in tune that we parted ways.
Again - Fraim and LP12 - what think you?
Cheers,
Don

If you've already got a Fraim then try it, it won't cost you anything, unless you need to buy an extra shelf of course.
I have heard an LP12 on M*** vs Fraim.
The M*** was good but not completely to my taste. I think you can have too much of a good thing as the M*** seems to exagerate the same things as Naim electronics and it all felt too forward and 'in your face'.
The Fraim, however, was superb. Everything fell into place, suffice to say the M*** was sold on and an extra shelf bought for the Fraim. (Not my sistem unfortunately).

I asked this question of Paul Darwin at Bristol. He has his LP12 on Fraim and rates it.

Strange. I haven't any such problems at all and sound is heaven. I Manaed LP12(Reference Table),
my tubed amp(Phase 2) and Supercap(Power Supply Table).

I have often pondered putting my LP12 on the Fraim but I am concerned about 'wobble' due to my suspended floor. I would love to get rid of my wall shelf!

Thanks for the views. I'll try it today and report back. Luckily, I have an empty Frarim shelf below the one where the LP12 will go, so this should eliminate any interference with the 52.

My dealer said not to put my P3 on a Fraim shelf and that a wall shelf would be the best. Not possibe in my current apartment situation. I however, made do with putting it on a very heavy coffee table that my TV sits on. Not sure this is the best solution but certainly the cheapest.
I'd like to see how you get on with putting it on a Fraim shelf as I might do that, just to clean up the clean lines of the coffee table and neatin up the place.

I have never been able to use an LP12 with anything but a wall mounted shelf of some kind. Perhaps this is because I've always lived in older homes with creeky wood floors. I do have a Fraim and it is possible to use an LP12 on it but only if no one walks around while the record is playing. Needless to say, this isn't an ideal situation.

I have a wobbly floor too so have my LP12 on Mana ref wallshelf. I have a spare Fraim shelf so may try getting oversized MDF and put Fraim on the Mana frame. Be good if Naim made a Fraim wallshelf.

Has anyone tried the LP12 on a stack of Fraims rather than a dedicated one? I would Like to invest in Fraims but two stacks would be my limit in terms of floor space. I envisige the CDS on to of one and LP12 on top of the other, with the noisy black boxes distributed equally on the lower shelves of the two stacks.

Malcon, if you go to System pics 2004 and Tom Alves has posted pics of my system with my LP12 on a Fraim stack, it works exceptionally well .
I am looking for an even handed sound, which is large and majestic, sound weightly but is controlled and has tons of PRAT, The Fraim does this and is a very significant upgrade to electronics and also to the LP12. The LP12 and NAim strengths are PRAT and a tonally balanced and tuneful sound, and I feel the Fraim buils upon those strengths. I would also urge you to try a Ortfon SPU Royal N, I did extensive catridge dems last yeat and it was bar far away the best and most even handed (many of the current crop of MCs are very bright IMHO)
regards
Dev

Blimey Dev, your system looks just like mine (except I can't see your CDS power supply). I'm off to the Fraim shop.

Good hunting Malcolm, you will enjoy teh Fraim. My XPS2 is teh last box in the stack on the left. Oh, the XPS2 is a very good upgrade for the CDS2 also, but you knew I woudl say that!

Aha! I thought you might be using two power amps. Go active.
I've had conflicting advice about changing the CDPS for an XPS. Some say the two transformer approach of the original CDPS can be better, but it fell foul of European regulations.
