Radical Idea for England's World Cup Team?!?

OK so Rooney looks like he's out of this one in any real terms. We were discussing the possibilities at work today and came up with the following idea which we think may just work.....
How about playing Joe Cole and Michael Owen up front as left and right sided strikers respectively. Put Stuart Downing in the left flank inplace of Cole with 3 of Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham and Wright-Phillips making up the centre and right midfield.
Cole has looked so confident and full of ideas infront of goal most of this season and Downing's left side crosses have been increasingly accurate over the last few months to provide from the left wing.
Crouch would be taken along as third forward and potential supersub rather than a 90 minute man, which I don't believe would cause anyone concern at international level.
We also have a few friendly games coming up to test out the new formation. Anyone else believe this could work?
