Naim Hi-Res Files = Naim DAC

Hi-Res files are an arguement AGAINST a standalone DAC, because they are not transferrale via simple SPDIF. You would need a streaming client with e.g. an HDMI interface, which probably makes no sense technically...

However, hopefully Naim is customer friendly enough to not follow the Linn route and put 2 digital inputs in their new NDX ;-)

Many DACs will handle up to 192kHz/24-bit via coaxial SPDIF with modern digital interconnects, though 96kHz/24-bit is probably more commonly used, as it is less susceptible to eye-pattern distortion.

I pass 24/96 through both toslink or spdif without any issues.

There are very few arguments "against a standalone DAC".... if any.

I cant think of one instance where an exernal DAC would be bettered by an internal DAC in a pre-amp or streamer. Naim CDP??? Obviously it is beneficial to NOT use one.

But for computer audio, an external DAC is a great option.

The tough part is finding one you like.
